Maybe if I got to see him play I would have respected him more (he is one of the greatest to play, no disrepect there), but it always left a sour taste in my mouth about how he treated Barry Bonds when he was nearing the record. Bonds is a whole other tangent not needed on this thread, but at any rate, it is sad to hear of Mr. Aaron's passing. He will be missed by many and Bonds himself released a very nice statement upon his passing. May he rest in peace, and hopefully no more Hall of Famers pass for a while.

Definately lost one of the all time greats, Didn't matter who you pulled for you knew him. Can't say I heard alot of bad things about him either.

I saw Aaron play in person once, 5/23/1971 at Shea Stadium (one for four with a single) ... Mets won 4-0. His batting average was .278 after that game, but he finished the season at .327, so imagine what a tear he went on to get there. He put up some amazing numbers in his late 30s. I remember during a Yankees broadcast Bill White was having a discussion on hitting with Phil Rizzuto ... the subject turned to Hank Aaron and the Scooter brought up the theory of pitchers jamming Aaron. White squashed that thought, say "you couldn't jam Aaron."

Now that the negro league statistics are included as MLB stats, he may be the home run king again. I believe he did started just as the negro league was ending.

I got to shake his hand and tell him, "You will always be the home run king." Back when I was in my 20s. He should have never gotten the shot he was in the higher risk zone with his age and He may not have had blood type O and that would have given him a 2ed strike. It's sad we had to lose him this way. But he did have an amazing life and he will live on forever in the halls and pages of baseball history.
R.I.P. Hank. You Will Always Be, The Home Runs King!
