I was a fan of Ambrosia back in the day because of their pop stuff. Then later on, I found some of their earlier stuff (like "Nice, Nice, Very Nice") and was enjoying that stuff even more. So I started doing a little research on them. Apparently, they were a different sounding band in 1973 and they attended a concert that changed their style. King Crimson, 1974. When I read that, my jaw almost hit the floor. Yet another band that I liked that was either related somehow or influenced by KC. Crazy!

Dream Theater.... Greatest band ever! John Petrucci is my favorite guitarist and one of my biggest musical inspirations. Symphony X rocks at times too!

One of the coolest concerts I ever attended was one in Nyack, NY, where it was just Petrucci and Rudess. They did zero DT songs, but it was incredible. Jordan's improv was amazing. They did a couple songs that they had written exclusively for that night. They released most of the show on CD. (The CD.)

Ambrosia is another of my faves Sportzcommish. I've still got my copy of their album with the pop up pyramid. I've seen them live twice, the last time was just this past November. No David Pack though. Still great shows. Dream Theater is another great live band. Saw them with Zappa Plays Zappa (Dweezil doing Dad's material). Super loud, too loud for the venue.
vrooomed the six degrees of seperation among bands is sometimes amazing. Another personal favorite band is Lucifer's Friend. John Lawton was their vocalist. Both he and John Wetton were in Uriah Heep at different times. From Lucifer's Friend to King Crimson, just like that. Sometimes it's a smaller world than you think.

My Autograph Collection Website Emphasis is on the 1969 Cubs. This is still a work in progress as is my collection here at TCDB. Value what you collect, don't collect for value.

I have some bootleg footage i got myself of a 4 band concert, Soil, dont remember, Rob Zombie, Ozzy. Rob blew Ozzy away ....
Also a fan of Ambrosia, love Nice Nice and i will try a few mentioned by ya,all, always looking for something new
A few of my best concerts were in an "altered" state of mind, like Frampton, seemed like i made the music with him .... then another was Foreigner & Billy Squire in Dallas Tx when i lived in Ft. Worth, was like i made the music with them
Landslide live by Fleetwood Mac is playing now ...

I wish there were more singers around that sound similar to John Wetton (particularly like on those early ASIA albums). He is one of my favorite vocalists ever.
PS-- If anybody is interested in hearing a 2017 prog band (under the guise of "indie psych") that doesn't dabble in metal, grunge, or folk-- Check out the songs "Rolando" or "Standing in the Wake of Violence" or "How Does it Make You Feel"
by ONCE AND FUTURE BAND. I stumbled upon them last year and was pleasantly surprised.

A band I've recently rediscovered and really got into lately is Electric Light Orchestra. My dad used to absolutely blast it on the stereo when I was a kid, and finding a copy of Out of the Blue recently on vinyl has really resparked my interest in that band.

For those of you who also like to see that there are new bands out there doing good music, I have a couple of suggestions, in no particular order:
The War on Drugs
My Morning Jacket
The Black Keys
Death Cab For Cutie
I'd be interested to hear other prog fans' takes on these bands. (From my other prog fan friends, these bands are well-received.)
