Went to work this morning knowing I had a meeting with the Program Manager for the Defense contract I worked for at 1:00. Went to the meeting and was told I am being laid of effective immediately. They are getting rid of my position. WTF. I was a manager.
So if anyone would like to help me out and purchase any of my cards please let me know, There are a few I will not part with but you never know till you ask. Thank you
Going to have to reflect on this for a bit.

Sorry, that sucks. No one is safe these days, greed rules the land.
Best to update your resume, and get to looking right away. I tried to take 6 months off after my last job, it really hurt my chances at a couple of great companies. Good luck.

That sucks! I hope you find something new (and better) soon.
I think I've only been laid off once in my life. It was an OfficeMax store that was opening their 1st store in my hometown. They hired 3x more people than they needed to run it, just to get it ready for opening. A couple of weeks after the Grand Opening, they started laying off every non-management employee making more than minimum wage. I was one of them. They basically got rid of everyone that had lots of experience at their position. The store only lasted about 10 years. They closed it when OfficeMax and Office Depot merged.
I was at work today and a lady at one of the accounts I manage asked me if any of my other accounts were hiring. She told me her son got laid off a couple of weeks ago from a warehouse job. All I could tell her was that I knew one of my accounts has been using a lot of "temporary help" lately. I don't know if it was by choice or b/c they needed help that bad, but some of the positions were in the warehouse. I told her the name and location of the company. Hopefully it will work out for him to fill one of those temp spots.

The company where I work (medical devices field) is being bought over -most of it- by a much bigger one. But my soon-to-be-former company will keep a production line so we have to accommodate both companies until the transaction is completed. Feels like having two jobs.
After the new owners take over, managers and people with longer tenures and bigger salaries will be the first ones to go once their knowledge is transferred. With that said, the merger process has been interesting and a good learning experience.
I also really need to take a months-long break once this is over, and take a course or certification as to not feel I'm wasting my time away. Fortunately for me I'm not really a fan of expensive things. Not that I'm nervous but I wouldn't want to be too long without a job.
But hey, that's life, you have to be able to adapt.

I am very sorry to hear that. I was laid off once back in 1993 and it was touch and go for a while until I was able to get a different job at the same company I was let go from. I am retired and on a fixed income but I would be interested in some of your 1952 Look and See cards. I could send you my want list if you are interested in letting some of them go. You seem to have multiple copies of them so it wouldn't hurt so much to sell some of those. You could also check my Look and See want list on this website. Hoping you get a job quickly. Thanks.

An update, to this, took a week off to go on our annual camping trip, got a ways and tried to relax but had some non supportive teans from other families.
Got back and started putting the reusme out with contacts and was asked by a former employer (Apr-Sept 2015) if I would be interested in coming back to work for them? The contract ended.
After a little back in forth, I will be starting NLT 17 Aug. Probably the 15th. Had to take a drug test and another background check for my clearance. But all is good.
Thanks for the support guys. Appreciate it
