I can't tell from scans on this site or any other site what the difference is between the retail/hobby parallels for the non-RC base cards. I would assume it's the emblem being gold/silver, but they all look gold to me. Does anyone know how to tell the difference?
Thanks,
Aaron

My personal database I was keeping for our hockey collection says "Grey Background" for the retail. I have no description for the hobby (and it looks like we didn't pick up the hobby Yzerman before our son came along). Just found our Yzerman, and it's depicted well at COMC (sold out). No luck finding a hobby version.

Yeah, they all look grey to me - just like all the emblems look gold. I'm not sure how subtle the difference is, but all the ones I've seen look exactly alike. I always hated the hobby/retail versions being different.

I just looked at the Samsonovs - they look correct on here.

Well, alright then... I just can't see same kind of difference in Samsonovs as in my example, that I found.

Just bumping this...still trying desperately to figure this out. Nobody really seems to know.

Going off memory, I haven't collected in nearly a decade but hockey was my thing... I think the background of the hobby has a gold tint to it and the retail has a silver/gray tint to it. They used to use gold foil for hobby and silver foil for retail for many of their sets, but I don't think they did that for these.
If I can remember this week, I'll dig out my cards and see if I can verify it. I'm sure I have both since my guy is in that set.

That would be appreciated. If what you say is true, then I have 2 retail cards, but no hobby. I thought I had one of each until I realized they're completely identical. I remember most of the older ones had a silver/gold foil as you mentioned. I guess that year they decided to change it.
