Does anybody know why John Madden and Pat Summerall weren't included in the 89 Pro Set announcers set? I assume it was some sort of contractual issue, but I was just curious if anybody knew the backstory.

I agree I think it has to do with contracts. But CBS also has 12 announcers out of 30 in the insert set. So maybe they lost out becuase of room. ------------------------------- When life has you down buy a pack of cards and realize you overpaid.

They were CBS's #1 team at the time, though, so you'd think they would be the first ones in the CBS group. I just wonder if it could have been related to Madden's other endorsements.

Could they have been exclusive with Action Packed at the time? AP did the All-Madden team sets for a few years. ------------------------------- I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Yeah, if the first All-Madden set came out in 1990 (I recall getting a couple of packs in my Easter basket back in the day), then I guess they could have been under contract when the announcers set came out. switzr1 wrote: Could they have been exclusive with Action Packed at the time?
