Card Identification Forum

So, I'm inputing cards and I come across this one.

The two images I've posted are of one with the blue border and the one with purple.

I have 3 of these and one of those three have a purple border instead of blue. The backs are identical and there are other cards in the set that match the purple pretty closely such as this one.

This just be a wierd discoloration? The purple one does appear to be darker or something. *shrug* Just curious.

Yep, just an ink thing. If you compare the guy with the blue shirt in the background, his shirt is purple on the card with the purple border but blue on the card with the blue border.

By way of comparison, if the photos had the exact same coloration on both cards and the border was different, then we may be on to something else.

I have run across this in my PC several times.    Thanks to the guys here I got them figured out which one was the real one. 

I keep them and note them in my excel files as printing errors.

Me too. I have a lot of "color variations" not recorded here. Some are very unique. I keep all my variations not allowed listing here and will eventually cataloque them and put them to my website. SOMEDAY?

Color variance was really common on NBA cards up to the mid-90s. Once you reach 1996 or 1997, give or take, it's MUCH less common, but, like any printed material, can still be found with enough searching. Whenever I come across them, I save them but don't mark them as a new card for my collection, unlike mis-cuts, missing foil, etc, which I do very much collect and track.
