It looks like the card has a raised area of material which causes the rest of the card to be out of focus.
You might be able to resolve this by first taking a photograph using a camera that can be set to allow for a Depth of Field that would cover both flat surfaces shooting straight on (@ 90 degrees). Then scan the printed photo that is the correct size to meet the requirements of the website.
Just a thought.

No photos and no scans of photos.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

It doesn't make any sense that you would have an out of focus scan from a scanner so my guess is your original post is a photo. If I'm wrong let me know.

It's the type of scanner - if the OP triued scanning a slabbed card, it would be blurry too. (That's how my scanner is.) There are better scanners that can handle depth. What it will take to get a good scan of this card is to use one of those.

Oh and for the record, NO. This is still a photograph of a card getting scanned - now you're reducijng quality even further by degrading a photo into a print out into a scan. Might as well just a photo of it from across the room (like some submission have seemed to be).

For something like this, I would build a mask for the card. Basically a piece of paper with solid color, no lines or print, with a cut-out in the middle that the card sits in. Then scan with the lid open. See if that is any better.

I never understood why they are so picky with the photo rules on this site. I know I have cards I could add to the site, but the effort it takes to scan on my scanner, plus all of the time to edit just don’t make it worth it to me. Cellphones can take a decent picture of a card, and if it’s not blurry, I don’t really see the issue if it’s not a low numbered card or a card with a very high value. I just don’t have time to scan every card I have that’s not in the site, and I feel like a high quality phone photo would suffice.
With issues like the card mentioned in the post, I think if the rules were bent for situations like this, it would also allow for more cards to be added to the site, benefiting everyone.
With all of that being said, I do want to thank everyone who has scanned a card and added it here. This site is amazing and has helped my collection so much!
