Jason, was not directed at you but all the members that believe Beckett makes intentional errors and that we'll be sued if we use their checklists.
Have these members asked themselves, "where did Beckett get the checklist?" They didn't create them from scratch. They didn't buy master sets and compile their checklists by hand. How could they since they post checklists before products are even released. They get the checklists from the card companies.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Is there a problem with Creating a Set, but not adding a checklist immediately.?

Technically no, but not preferred. There are plenty of locations here where sets were created, but no checklists and it makes things disorganized. There are over 3000 sets in here without checklists and that doesn't do anybody much good.

That's over 15,000 points just ripe for the pickin'.
Well, not really. A lot of those sets and very obscure, and checklists are not known.

Obscure is being too nice. I tried my hand at several of them and think I lost a few brain cells trying to find the answers. I, at least, look every so often and see if there is anything I can solve.

Sets with no checklists are basically a way of saying "yeah we know it exists but... "

I must disagree with this. We have seen numerous examples of where members create a placeholder for a known set, start a thread in its discussion forum, and then crowdsource the checklist. It is not like this creates extra 'space' in the database that prevents anyone from finding what they have or from cataloging their collection. This is the exact purpose of the database and should be encouraged.
Back to Jason's point, does it surprise anyone that over 40,000 IRs have been cleared just this year alone? 4-0-0-0-0. Granted, not all of them are 'errors,' but a significant number of them are. Community members (and this isn't directed at anyone) need to take greater care in adding or making changes to the database, because it's easy for one click to create hours of work for others to clean up. Adding sets is easy--but a significant source of many IRs. If you've been around long enough, you've seen the yearly 'Hold off on adding flagship Topps baseball' thread. It's great that so many people are willing to help and are eager to get their cards added, but doing a little due diligence upfront to make sure it's done right the first time can and will save a lot of headaches later.
Updating the database can be challenging and takes a while to learn. If you're not sure before clicking that button, ask!

I not against adding a set and crowd sourcing work on the checklist. I admit to doing it while still working on finalizing a checklist to get the process started. Not worried about "space". It's the creating a set and then doing nothing; create an entry to create an entry and then doing nothing with it. Actually more like adding a set because they THINK it exists. There are entries that are willy nilly adds and I'm sure some of them are dupe entries. I've spent hours trying to find some of these checklists and there are no records that can found. Look at the sets that are awaiting checklists, how long they've sat there and how many forums threads exist asking for a checklist. With that said, this DB is supposed to gather and document everything and am all about adding a set isn't an issue. I try to make this site BETTER.
And yes, I've been around long enough to see the 'hold off threads", I've created a few while working on checklist updates and do know my way around. And not afraid to ask, Dan can vouch for that (didn't mean to throw you out there like that!!!). Not taking what you mention personally; it's actuall good advice for newer members and a reminder for some vets.

Here I am, vouching.
Yes, Jim has helped out on a lot of items, and has asked a bunch of questions, all good. Bounty13 has a great point, and Jim expounded on it - creating a set with the intention of working on it is the right way to go about it. Adding a set for no purpose other that to pad a stat (which doesn't get you any points anyway) is the wrong reason. Having half info for a set and adding it is also bad ("I think it was 1945, so I'll just add it there...").
This is YOUR site. If you've signed up and have a membership, I'm talking to you. As a crowd-sourced site, it is everyone's responsibility to ensure the database is correct. That includes ensuring what you add is correct and when you see something that is not correct you fix it, or let someone else know who can. Thanks to Admin adding the ability to have a change log for each set, it's a lot easier to see who did what. So, yes, your user ID is out there. People can see what you've done for the site. Take some pride in it and do the right thing.

"Community members (and this isn't directed at anyone)..." seemed to have been overlooked. It was not directed at you Jim.
