For the last 5 or 6 weeks, I've been adding my collection to the site. It was fun for maybe the first half of that time. But I'm not an organized person, and I'm not a "completionist". It became a drag, but I thought it was necessary in order to ensure that I don't trade for cards I already have. Then it hit me, if I trade for a card I already have, who cares? I'll just trade it again if I ever notice that I have two of them. And if I only ever own 791 out of 792 cards in some Topps set without realizing it, that missing Mike Loynd or Ed Correa card won't make my life any less fulfilling. So I'm done adding my whole collection. I put some cards in a binder on my lunch break, without adding them first, and it was fun. This is no slight toward anyone else or how you use the site. I'll still use the site, and I'll still add my traders as I find them. But I'm back to collecting as I was in my year away from the site, when it was fun, yet still trading. Tonight I'll start a wantlist. There's thousands of sets that i know i don't have any cards from. Sorry for the long read. They're upgrading our computers at work right now so i can't do anything but mess around on my phone.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I see your point.
Some time last year I asked the question. "Is it worth the time to add 180,000 cards I have for trade/sale and just have under 100 cards listed that matches my wants." So I have only been adding cards when someone ask about a set or player. Just finished adding Marcus Allen and have not received an offer from the guy who asked about them.

What I found works for me is using the comment field when I add cards. I use the comment field to record the physical location of that card. When I did a trade with Shaw Racing it was super easy for me to pull the cards he was interested in. The only hard part was for me, being the knucklehead that I am, was remembering how to use the transaction manager. Thankfully Shaw Racing was patient with me and helped me work out my numptieness.

The way I see it, the database is a multi-purpose tool. If there is a feature that does not help you, don't use that feature, plain and simple.

Agree with Lea 100%!! I like to use the DB so I know what I have.....like the 250 Doug Drabek rookie cards (I have 120 of the 250 entered if anyone is counting).....and really, so I can see just how many cards I do have....I am somewhat of a competionist......but with realities....I'm never going to complete the Project 2020 set, but I like a few of the cards and if there are some that I see....hey...I can try to trade for them or look for them. you do you and I'll do me :) that's the best way to use the site I think ;)

Gator, your comment piqued my interest, so I looked up Project 2020. Wow, there's some incredible stuff there. I did not know these existed. I may get a Gibson if the right artist hasn't already done his yet.
