I've been going through some of the checklists for 2014-15 Panini National Treasures basketball. A lot of them have numeric card numbers and I've been changing what I can to alphabetic. The last checklists I've worked on are the Timelines and Timelines Prime. I found the correct card numbers for all except Adrian Dantley. If you look at the checklists he's sitting there as card number "10" while everything else is alphabetic.
One could make a reasonable guess that it should be T-AD based on the other cards. However, T-AD is already taken by Anthony Davis. Panini sometimes add a third character in these cases or use something other than "AD."
How should this card be handled? Leave it as the original and incorrect "10" or do something else? I thought I'd check with you folks before I send in an IR to have the checklists re-sorted. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'd just put it as T-AD. If it does have a 3rd letter, it can only be R or A. Then whenever someone does have one or see one, only one letter MIGHT need to be added.

I checked comc.com, it's T-ADL.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

You bailed me out, C2C! Thank you!
I'll probably do what spaz suggests in the future. Make it close and somebody can flag it later.
Thanks, guys.

Good job Chuck! I can't believe they used an "L" for that card. All the more reason to consider that the folks at Panini are a little insane. OR, they just like chaos about their cards. If people keep talking about them, I guess they think we'll keep buying them.
But they have kind of standardized their alphanumerics since they started making NASCAR cards. They spread that into other sports too. I'm glad it's not as random as it was just 5 years ago.

A little insane? that might be an understatement. I just went through the 2019 Panini Chronicles Baseball set and it was pretty random with the numbering. . Most of the Autograph and Memoribilia sets are alphabetical. 2 sets were simply numbered. Several of the alphabetical sets had 2 players that used the same initials within the set and the others used different 2 letter combinations to distinguish the players. None used a 3rd letter.
Maybe you are right about the chaos.

One can never tell when Panini will decide to use unique letters for guys with the same initials, because sometimes they don't, because... Panini? I guess? I've seen some inserts sets where I was able to verify that four or five different cards used the same card "number". That really bugs me.

In NASCAR, they use KB for both of the Busch brothers (Kyle and Kurt). But for Dale Earnhardt Jr., they use JR instead of DE or DEJ. There are no other drivers with the initials DE and they don't have the rights to make cards of Dale Sr., so there is no real reason not to use first and last initials like they do for everyone else. There are several drivers with the initials CB, CE and DH. They use the same letters for all of them.
