I am working on soccer checklists right now and one of the top teams in the Bundesliga is FC Bayern München. The Bundesliga official site and the team's official site lists them as FC Bayern München and Panini uses that name too but when I add players from the team to checklists under the name they are not linking. I looked in to it and the team here is listed incorrectly as Bayern München.
There are 2,765 cards listed under the incorrect name Bayern München and probably 800+ players listed under FC Bayern München that are not linked, can this be corrected to FC Bayern München without causing problems?

I'm just asking because I don't follow soccer, but have they always had the FC at the front of their name or was it a more recent change? If it has always been there, I would send a message to Admin and maybe he could change them all in one fell swoop saving time fixing them all by hand (so to speak). If they haven't had FC in front of their name then I think it should be determined when the change took place and then I think Admin could change them all without having to go through each and changing them.

According to club history it has had the same name since its founding in 1900. Their full name is "Fussball-Club Bayern München" and (to make matters more confusing) they are often refered to as FC Bayern Munich (even on their own website).

Sounds to me FC should be added. I think that would be something easier for Admin to take care of, unless someone with certain level can change a Team name, but I don't think they can.

I just did a quick look at a couple of soccer team names, it appears that almost all DO NOT contain "FC" either before or after the club name. A few do. I think we need Admin to officially establish a standard.

This is a common problem here in the database. Most soccer teams here do not have the correct names linked to their TID's. Some examples are "Real Madrid" should be "Real Madrid CF", "Arsenal" should be "Arsenal FC", "Paris Saint-Germain" should be "Paris Saint-Germain FC", my favorate team is"Deportivo La Coruña" and should be " Real C Deportivo A Coruña". Years ago, the TID's weren't that important because only Admin could add them. Now, with everyone contributing, it's a little more complicated. There has to be a good house cleaning when it comes to the club names for soccer here. But, first there has to be an agreement on what words in the team names you want to abreviate. There are tons of teams with the words "Football Club" (FC), "Sporting"(S), "Athletic"(Ath.), "Club de Futbol"(CF), "Real"(R), "Atletico"(At.), and these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head in the two languages I'm fluent in. God knows how many more there are. I get the feeling it's not going to be an easy problem to fix.

Yes, I have also been working on the soccer checklists here and the soccer team names are quite a problem. We also have names like F.C. Barcelona and A.C. Milan (with dots). The names are often not incorrect as such, but we should have a standard of how the names are entered into the database. It is not as easy as one could think though, since there are often several ways of writing out a team name and sometimes one name is more common in domestic league while another name is used at UEFA and in European cups. Then we have for example Russian teams that have names with cyrillic letters and then translated differently into different languages and such. As deporcoruña says, it is not an easy problem to fix.

I was hoping this would be an easier fix, but it appears that it will be a huge undertaking. I believe the teams should be listed here under their official names so Real Madrid CF and Arsenal FC would appear correctly instead of just Real Mardid and Aresnal. One that is personal is Seattle's team. They were the Seattle Sounders prior to the MLS expansion and since 2007 when they joined the MLS they have been known as Seattle Sounders FC. Pulling up the teams, there are only 70 cards under the FC name but 1,296 under Seattle Sounders. Only 1 of those 1,296 cards, 1979 Topps NASL logo, should be listed under the Sounders the rest should be Sounders FC.

I suggest preparing a list of the teams, showing how they are listed here, and what they should be listed as - and sending that directly to Admin.
If a team name needs to be changed, that can be done in the back end very easily, and it should link all the cards correctly.
Someone mentioned the ability of members to add TIDs these days - if there are multiple TIDs for the same team, please alert Admin of that as well, so that the appropraite change can be made.
No members have the ability to fix any issues such as these.

Seems overly redundant. They're all football clubs. We don't put University in every college team name; University of Florida Gators, Ohio State University Buckeyes, etc. Even though "University" is in their official names. Same with American baseball teams; we use New York Mets, not their official corporate name "The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club, Inc." Is there some confusion with Bayern Munchen and some other Bayern Munchen soccer team?

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
