Yeah right.

I am not real upset by this, but if they want kids to get back into collecting, they should put more emphasis in the base sets and make inserts minimal so when you pull one it feels special. Maybe its just me though.

This is not good news for Football card collectors. While I don't dislike Panini, they could stand to do a MUCH better job with their NBA license...and I have seen, with NASCAR giving Press Pass an exclusive since 2001 and NBA Panini exclusive since 2009- 10...it's bad for the hobby. There is no incentive to do a better job than the "other guy", so the designs tend to be repetitive, but even worse, they keep shrinking the sets, both in content and number of sets.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I am pretty much a football only collector and while I like Panini too, I hate this news. I'm old enough to remember when Topps had the exclusive rights until 1989 when Pro Set and Score came along and the difference was night and day.

Topps was very stale and predictible with no photos on the back etc. They didn't have to try to improve because they had the monopoly.

I'm not saying Panini will regress football cards to that point, but they probably won't make them any better either. The incentive to do so is now gone.

WIth Baseball, Topps has the exclusive license with MLB but not the MLBPA.

That first resulted in.. instead of 5+ manufacturers producing 20 sets a year, now Topps produces 20 sets a year. Often with the same pictures used.

Now the MLBPA has signed licenes with other manufacturers and even more sets are out there but without any logs or trademarks being allowed on the cards.

I would rather go back to multiple manufacturers having a license but telling them the amount of sets they can produce is limited, or they have to be truly unique from each other.
