Dinosaur here... I started buying packs in 1967. Came a point in time that I could just buy the entire set at one time but I did not do that. My thinking was, I'll get the set completed by buying packs and all the extras I could trade with my extras.

To this day I still buy packs to complete my sets or trade for what I need to finish one. I currently have the Topps '59, '60, and pretty much '68 up until now sets. Don't know I keep doing it, can't take them to your grave, but I do.

Not everything has to be about money and if you treat this as a hobby and cater to many of whom just want to complete their sets you will be fine because your focus is on their needs rather than selfishly wanting to "slab" everyone into monetary submission for your own gain.

Although immeasurable, it's most certain many set collectors no longer due and that was in large part aided by the inclusion of SP cards within a set, that closed the door for many set building loyalists and the manufacturers could give a darn because amongst us are zombie math deficient types whom are plunking down hundreds to thousands of dollars for the 1 card box once in every 2 boxes.

Anyone else see these young, smug Johnny come latelys leading a legion of followers on their social media channels advocating the most inane c--p that they eagerly lap up because of the big $$ $igns attached to what they do?

We "dinosaurs" are an awesome breed, sadly everything dies but our passion for set building (tries to) lives on. 

I spend the money on boxes and that also means time spent to open those boxes and organize those Sets. I wish that would have started in 1978 with my first pack. I would probably have enough Jordan Rookies to retire. Sadly I got my license around the time Jordan was a Rookie. Since 1997 though, sorting cards has kept me out of a lot of trouble I could've gotten into. I love a Complete Set marked on an Album.

I read your post for a 2nd time. You catch more when you study. If you ever get to East TN, message me. I'm sure I could take you to a place to help with the Sets. You might be happy to know that a Maryland kid made it down here to play Baseball for the local College. He has a State Farm Insurance office in my hometown with a Card Shop in the back. I would love to take you by there to see a nice Orioles collection and browse for Set completers and then on to Bristol, TN where you can explore more Set Completion options.

Bristol, TN... You wouldn't happen to be referring to Southern Cards would you (although that one is actually on the VA side of the state line)? I am rather familiar with that place and visit it every so often.
