This isn't a contest, just a fun guessing game. I recently had determined that I couldn't continue to collect baseball the way I did before (some players, 1 team that changed) because I ran out of room for storing the extras. As I've said before on here, I don't just put all my baseball cards in but I had them in boxes. Since I don't have room for more boxes (technically, I do but I don't have room for moving them around) I decided to move into "sets" which means I get to sort those boxes by years and then add everything into my collection here.
So I also do not know the answer to this question but I have some details that I can provide.
- 6,743 cards currently in collection. This is from my player collection binders, plus 1 blaster of 2022 Mosiac and 1 case of 2016 Topps Chrome Mega box.
- 25 binders of the MLM player queue, 1 card per player A-Z, major league teams only. If I were to guess book M and S have 500 cards, and the average large letters like C, D to have 300. These might end up being 8,000+ cards in total?
- 15 binders of the current team, then Charlotte Stone Crabs alumni, but these include doubles. The card totals must be less than the A-Z books by a good measure. So let's say 4,000?
- A few hundred pages that still have cards in that haven't been taken out. I'd say 300 pages might be a good number. I already pulled out the low card pages from that box. I can guess maybe 3,600 still to be removed.
- There should be close to or just over 70x 4 row boxes (which most would be 3600 count but some are slightly larger or smaller with no notation as to how many are held. This is my back stock and includes doubles. I know for sure there are at least 3 boxes that just has 1989 Donruss and 1992 Donruss and the 1989 lot can include up to 100 doubles. Also mixed in from another collection I bought was from an early 90s prospector, so there are say... 500x 1989 Topps Gary Sheffield rookies and similarly a few hundred 1990 Upper Deck Todd Zeile
Summary
6,743 current
12,000 estimated to be in binders
4,000 estimated to be in loose pages
252,000 estimated to be in x 4 row boxes
---
274,743 estimated
Now I wonder how many cards it will actually be in the end, minus all of those doubles? That's where the fun will be had.
PS: It may take me 6 months to complete this project so don't expect a timely answer to this question. ^_^
PS2: Some of my doubles will end up on trade list here, but most are already spoken for. Also I won't be WL much baseball until I'm done.

Pretty impressive, do you have a system of identifying the boxes and sports?

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Currently my collection consists of x number of 4 row boxes. I am going through them and sorting them by year and put 1 year in a row based on how many I have. I start with 1982. After a new 4 row box is filled with the year sorted cards, then I put the cards from the row into sets and then into number order. Then I go and put the cards from that box into the site. I think there are 6 or 7 box that are partially filled. The next box I get from the pile is just that, whatever it happens to be. But everything in the pile is just baseball.

My guess: twice as many as half of your collection.
-------------------------------
Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
