Seen a few of these at card shows and sketchy card shops. Although it delays you receiving your card, it doesn't hurt.

The authentication companies are also known to have graded fake/counterfeit/altered cards.

Not that I have any faith in eBay picking up these cards.

1st off YEA YOU  IN DEED  !!! You can never go wrong with a RC. of the  HOfamer  Mr. Cub  As far as your point I agree. People on here will probably  BLINDLY  DEFEND ebay like they personally know whoever it is that is authenticating cards / grades as legit. As far as a novice collector or investor they shouldn't be buying anything high dollar until they've done some research so as not to get scammed in the first place. Let alone again who is the so called authenticator / authenticators over at ebay we are supposed to what just TRUST them at their word they have people who are trained in EACH of the fields that they offer this service. OH that's right they offer this very thing in some other fields as well. I know somebody who is into the high $ shoes and they are / were offering in that category as well. Reminds me of beckett putting out all these price guide publications on other types of collectibles but more importantly trying to act like the expert in those fields as well. That's where my respect for that company went right down hill from there. Anything just to make bucks and that is where ebay / greedbay is heading with this just like things like the vault and other things. Don't forget they are at the end of the day a publicly traded company so they ANSWER to the SHAREHOLDERS  !!   1st.

That’s a weird take since I don’t think any of us have ever met anyone who actually likes eBay and wouldn’t run to another platform within seconds if the same exposure could be matched elsewhere. 

I do find it funny that the service is also based on the original buy it now price, not the actual price via best offer. I recently bought a card that had a buy it now of $300 but was able to go back and forth to get down to $80. It still ended up going to authentication. I’m curious how good they are at authenticating misidentified cards.  We’ve all seen the occasional mislabel of a slabbed card, would eBay catch that?

Got screwed twice with eBay "authenticating" graded cards. Both slabs were mislabeled as glossy, once it gets authenticated you can't do crap about it.
