I have, what I believe, is a sample card of Garret Anderson with the upper left corner clipped. In checking the site for samples of the 1997 Pinnacle I didn't see any. Were there samples of these cards and is Garret Anderson one of those samples or did someone cut this card? I don't remember how I came to have this card.

TCDB generally does not list these separately, as anyone could clip the corner off a packed-out card and call it a promo.

I totally agree with the statements Vrooomed and C2C made. Pinnacle did release samples of there insert cards with the top corner clipped. There is no distinctive difference otherwise between Sample and pack inserted. The only way you can know for certain that it is a sample/promo is if you opened the sample case yourself which had I think 8 other clipped cards and if I remember correctly a Pinnacle card advertising Pinnacle brands.
