Newer cards have always been something of an abormality for prices as long as I can remember collecting. When the sets are current, everyone is struggling to find the last few cards they need to finish them off and they'll pay the .99 per card price on ebay, for example. After a couple years, speculation as to which rookies will turn out to be stars have turned more to known knowledge so the rest of the cards balance out to actual prices.
In regards to this site, I've found that the newer sets often reflect ebay pricing, which is higher than card show pricing in most cases. People are paying the prices so they are true prices but they only are true of one source. Sportslots is a site more in line with card show pricing since it is used more by true collectors vs what I would call the ebay collectors who don't know better. After a year or two, the common cards drop and end up in the 10 cent bins. Ebay doesn't reflect that.
If all the prices are entered together, you'll begin to see a more relistic picture of pricing.
