Since, I am 23 (24 in April) I told my wife if something unexpected happens have my best friend sell them/keep some. But I also bought his collection which makes up about 1/3 of my collection. Our first is due in October so I am hoping they collect and makes it easy for them to do stuff with it. If my health starts to decline I will slowly sell of as I can.

I shall happily donate some 1990 Donruss. Put that set to its final and deserving resting place.

lol. lol lol. I was gonna use that line..
FYI you all will never know the reality of your collection. In the end... Unless you have superior rare exellent cards.. Your collection story will be "riches to rags".. Like most collective things.. The only real value is the one in Your own Eyes.. My inlaws and father had many collections.. Of many types. Cars, Coins, Stamps, Hot Wheels, etc.. The $$$$$ they saw ended up being $$. No one will spend the money for your collection unless its cheap for them to obtain.. UNLESS you have the Rare Edition... Reality Check.

I've actually set my idea in motion. I have one child, a daughter. She's got her mind set on my little pony, barbie, shopkins. No cards, star wars, gijoe, transformers. So I have slowly started downsizing. Selling most of my collectibles little by little. Profit from hot wheels goes to her future fund. I'm thinning out my card collection and most of the profits will go to her and moving. I don't enjoy cards like I used to mainly because of no room. So, build sets, sell them. Pc, keep them and add to them. And, at some point she will inherit what's left and she can keep it or sell it to help herself out.

My boys and I have talked about this not long ago. And they are going to keep the cards and split them among their kids. Unless something happens and they need to sell them. Good thing is they collect with me. So it makes the whole journey with cards more fun.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that when I am dead, I won't care. Therefore I don't worry about such things. If they go to someone that loves them great. If they go in a shredder or a burn barrel, just as good. They are a hobby I enjoyed while I am alive, the dead have no need for such things or concerns. I know it sounds morbid, but it is just fact.

Have one daughter and granddaughter...
Doubt they would care...
Great Nephew has started racing carts and watching NASCAR which I collect...
See what happens in 10 years or so....
What I worry about is the 10 lbs of lead I have (Micro Armor, Battletech, Starfleet etc miniatures)...

My kids aren't really interested in my cards, other than some non-sports stuff. I figure a retirement project will be to scale down through selling / buying upgrades and then leaving the higher value stuff as an inhertiance and the ecclectic stuff to fellow collectors.
