I started to organize my collction (since my stroke) 6 months ago. Going thru a box of commons of 1991 Topps baseball I came across a Wes Chamberlain. Didn't think much of it at first. When I started to put the cards in number order I saw what I thought was a card in the wrong stack. It turns out the card front shows a correct photo of Wes Chamnerlain but the back of the card is card #494 of Mike Saxon form the 1990 Topps footall set. I have plenty of blank backs and wrong backs but I have never seen a wrong sport back with a different year back. I have searched for days but can't find anything on it. Just wanted to know if anybody came across this or can point me in the right direction on where to look for info. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have personally never heard of that happening so I assume that must be a pretty rare error. I have plenty of wrong (player) backs or blank backs and things like that but never two different sports and years on the same card. Lol are you sure it's not two cards stuck together?

I looked at it under a big magnifying glass and there is no seperation. That was my original thought. I did try to seperate (if that was the case) and wound up doing more harm than good. If I can figure out how to post pictures I will put them up.

There is are several of those from the 1991 sets. It also happened with some football fronts and baseball backs the same year. Never seen it happen before or after. Oddly, the exact same thing happened with 1991 Fleer, there are baseball/football combinations just like Topps.

Yes....it's farely common from that era, unfortunately. It has more to do with the time of year the cards were printed than the sport.

I have never seen this card before. Im a big Chamberlain collector. We share the same last name and as a phillies fan I still haven't seen it. Even though it seems to be common still interesting for a collector to have

Oddly enough I just came across a1991 topps card of Mike Lieberthal with a back of a 1990 James Saxon card #269. Both Philly fronts and both backs of 2 different Saxon cards from 1990 Topps football.
