So tell me this how does an auction that was suppsoe to be seven days (I check ranford every day sometimes twice so I know I didnt miss it and I always click to "newly listed") end with one bid (the minimum) and say it went the full seven days ?!?! Things like that make me very grumpy, is there ways the seller can manipulate the listing to do that? Say he got a PM saying they would buy it and then does something to end the auction? Grrrrrr and it was a sweet looking card starting fairly cheap!! =(

Sure. The seller can end the listing at any time. Of course, there are very specific circumstances under which this is allowed. "I got a nice offer" isn't one of them. And I think if you end too many auctions early, you're supposed to have a black mark on your record. Do I believe that happens? Not really. And, yes, grumpy is a mild word for what it makes me.
My sympathies.

I do the same thing. I check my "Searches" at least once a day.
I've sent PMs to sellers when the starting bid was higher than what I wanted to pay. I told them what I'd be willing to pay and some have sent me a Buy It Now offer. As long as there are no bids they can change/cancel/end the listing. And if they claim a mistake in the listing it can be ended (even if there are bidders). Such as that duplicate 1/1 listing you found not too long ago.
I find it "never hurts to ask". So don't be afraid to send a PM with a "Buy It Now" offer. The saavy sellers are usually willing.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Yes, very frustrating!
I was watching a card for which the "buy it now" listings at $149 then $125 both expired without any takers. The seller proceeded to run a 7-day auction with $0.99 starting price. I bid up to about $20 but on the scheduled end date the aution and all bids were canceled.
I've never sold on Ebay, but presume that if I wanted a certain price for my item, I'd either set a reserve auction or a BIN. If the market isn't willing to pay my price though, I might be waiting a long time...
Ebay apparently lets folks do it differently though, ending auctions early if the bidding hasn't gone high enough for the seller's liking. Would be nice if such actions would result in black marks/bad reputation, but there's no way for ebay to distinguish legitimate "error in listing" situations from "greedy seller" ones.

I use eBay a lot for both buying and selling. I have a number of searches saved and I've found from time to time that items slip through my saved searches, even though I check them all of the time. I am not sure how this happens, but it is something with eBay's search functionality.
As for ending an item early, this does cause a black mark on a seller's record with eBay if you end an auction early that has bids on it. First, eBay charges you the fees for the bids that were placed and then they mark your account. Too many of those marks and your seller account is suspended.

lets not get on this ebay kick again lol.. there was this card yesterday listed for $94 Buy it Now or BO.. so i threw an offer for hit, he declined, i sent him a message and asked about a counter or price range,.. he says- I have to get at least 90 for it. HA.. i'm like -- really? lol so i told him, if you're stuck on 90 why the hell put a BO on the listing? you make no sense lol
oh well, still do a lot on it though, finally got some things up on COMC, and trying to understand the Sportslot charge for selling. i get they charge you a percnetage on your monthly sales but if you don't sell nothing then you don't pay nothing, however i thought i read they still charge like 4.95 if you continue to ask questoins and for admin upkeep?? any one sell there? that sound about right?

I have sold on SportLots. Since I'm a very low volume seller (an item or two here and there), they usually snatch most of the card price. Good news, they let you keep your postage price tou collect. :) I have heard or seen NOTHING about a $4.95 charge for asking questions.

Looks to me like it was an auction with a BIN on it. The first "bidder" took the BIN price.
