Hello to all! Found this site earlier this month when I impulsively decided to start inventorying my collection that I have been growing sporadically since my first '87 Topps Baseball purchase. Still nowhere near complete, but I have never found a better site to quickly find, reference, and catalog my stuff. Yesterday I scanned and uploaded my first card images. No matter how many times I try, I can't get the foils and reflectors to come out sharply enough to show details. Can anyone provide advice on those specifically? Thanks.

meant to say also,, i usually keep my scanner lid open as I'm scanning, if i need to, i'll use a white or dark paper placed over the card as I'm scanning to adjust the light so i don't have to keep adjusting sanner settings. but once you got your settings good you shouldn't have to change them.

First off, welcome to the site and secondly enjoy the tools you have found. To answer your question I can not LOL, I try as I might and have yet to get them accurate, my scanner loves the blue in my foil cards and can't stop it. As vroomed says keep trying and at some point you will either find a solution or accept what you have. =)

It's the "nature of the beast" when it comes to reflective surfaces and scanners. tonym cites a good instructional post created by Billy Kingsley. Results all depend on your scanner and the photo editing software used with it. I use ArcSoft PhotoStudio 6 with my Canon scanner.
Of course, sheets of optical linear polarizing film would eliminate the problem. But they're expensive and personally I can't justify the cost just for card scans.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I actually use a app called Mobi DB - I am able to create my own with photo, barcode, price etc. I have connected to my tablet so I can take a picture with the phone or tablet and upload.

This site requires cards be scanned, not photographed.
