10 years ago I exclusively collected 1969 to 1986 Topps Football. That's it; that's all I cared about. Now, nine years after joining TCDB, well....here's some sample images from sets currently on my sorting table. They are either getting inventoried, prepped for a trade, or going into binders.

That's cool Chad.  And happy nine years, a day late.  I would have assumed you always collected non-sport with your football!

Nice, ecclectic, branching out. I knwo the feeling. When I joined the site coming back into the Hobby I was going to concentrate on baseball from 74-present. In a previous life, and a collection I no longer have, I was a baseball and football person. Now, well, I'm almost done the 70-73 BB sets, have a nice lot of 62s and 68s to work with, a hockey vintage run I NEVER thought I have and some sweet non-sport tobacco cards. Oh yeah, football is back in there too.  Yep, what this site will do to you :).

I stumbled into non-sport by accident. I bought a bunch of cards in an antique store and there was a tobacco card in the lot. I didn't even notice it when I bought the box. I thought it was just football. When I tried to look it up on TCDB, there wasn't a listing. I did a little research and added the checklist to the database. In the process I found another Tobacco set that wasn't listed and then another. That went on for about a year and about a hundred sets. During that time I stumbled into victorian trade cards and pre-war non-sports and repeated the process with those.

As I'd research a set, I'd start to like it and then buy a card or two. That quickly grew into a collection. My Pokemon collection happened nearly the same way. I was adding some of my kid's Pokemon cards so we could track their collection and noticed some of the Pokemon listings on TCDB were incomplete. I thought I could help out TCDB a little while working on my kid's collection. As I was trying to figure out Pokemon I was having a hard time understanding how the sets were organized. So I went to my local game store, talked to the guy behind the counter a little bit, and bought an Elite Trainer Box to see what the cards were like. I ended up doing that for about year. Now I have a Pokemon collection. All because of TCDB.

Cool story Chad. This site has given me a new appreciation of non-sport too.  It helps that my interest in pro sports is waning.  I had no idea there was so much pre-war non-sport until I saw them here.  I now own a Tobacco card that teaches me how to clean my gutters!
