All I can say is that I'm not sorry I did this. Some people out there would be aghast that I would defile these in such a way, but I have no regrets. These were meant to be seen and enjoyed.

For the record, it 2020 Donruss FB and 2009 Topps FB. Got the Donruss set for $15 less at auction than what everyone was trying to sell it for. Now it the '17D can come down from it's $400 perch back to its pre-pandemic $50 range......

You go you!! Enjoy your collection the way you want to. It's your investment to do with as you wish. This hobby allows each individual to do things thier own way for their own enjoyment.

Doesn't everyone open their sets?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

It looks like you repurposed the marketing packaging on the outside of the storage boxes. I do that. It helps me remember what is inside!

To each their own, but the thing I don't like about factory sets is that I buy them, open them, look through them (probably one time), and then up in the closet they go. I'd rather COLLECT a set...that's what makes it enjoyable for me. So yes, open those factory sets!

I would much rather build a set by hand by busting wax, but nowadays is just isn't cost effiicient to do it. I'm playing catchup in some areas too just best off to just get it done. I'll open them, sort through them and looks to make sure it is complete and without damage before sorting them numerically. It's amazing how many factory sealed sets I've bought that have had damaged cards inside (no fault of the shipper). And yes, I'm a collector not investor. One day I hope to have these in pages. Some day....

I happened to walk into a Target and find the complete Donruss set. I opened it and after goinf through the normal cards I put them into my records as a complete set. I took the 50 varaitions and put them where I store them.
There were two rack packs of that set in that Target also, this is the only time I have seen any of this years Donruss .

I don't think I have any sets like that that I've kept unopened either. It's fun to open them and look at them so you can, you know, enjoy them, plus I also like scanning stuff for the DB. Good choice

In my eyes:
Collector = opens sets looks at cards, sees what they look like, feel like, what is there (or isn't there that should be...). Is actually interested in the cards.
Investor = keeps set sealed. Only ever thinks about it again if they cant to check what its "value" is.
(This is why all my cards tend to be in less than pristine condition as I like to actually look at them and handle them most likely more often than I should!).

I have every Topps set (and a few Fleer sets from the 80's) from 1980-2018 in binders. From about 1993-2018 I bought factory sets, opened them and put them in binders. Surprisingly, some factory sets were missing cards, so it is worthwhile going through them. I just wish the factory sets were in numerical order.
