This is the best thread I have read in a while, I have been to your beautiful country three times, shortest stay two weeks, longest almost a month. I could ramble on for ever but my memory is a terrible thing and names start to leave me. I went the first time for fun, met internet friend (I swear not THAT kind lol) and all her family. Met her WW2 vet grandfather and gifted him some Canadian war items for the local vet lodge and pokie room (they should still be on display) that was in beuatiful Brisbane. I was up the Gold Coast all the way to a small town that The Amazing Race went to, has the big horse shoe shaped aquarium you can walk through. The cool parrt is I got them all hooked on hockey as it was 2006 when Edmonton went to the finals. The only way I could "watch" the games was usingthe NHL Radio Network on her home computer, we all sat around in hockey jerseys (which I brought along) and listened and cheered!! Great memories. We also did all the great theme parks and got hundreds of photos. The BEST thing about my first trip, one word RIVERFIRE. I got to watch the entire festival and fireworks display as I stayed there while it was on, if you do not know about it use good ol' Google and Youtube. Its freaking insane, i was literally a block and a half from the airplanes!! =D
Second time I was there was for Jennifer's wedding (I was first groomsman) that was the short stay as I was pretty broke. They paid for everything but my airfare and was honored to be part of it. Again I stayed in Brisbane but was very low key. This is when I became a Lions fan and still am to this day, aussiewayne has even blessed me with a AFL PIF, I would collect cards if there were sets and I have slacked on watching for about three years now. My BAD!!
Last trip was my honeymoon!!! 23 glorious days on three of your coasts!! East coast, West coast and North coast. Sydney, Perth and Darwin. Will try to make it short, Stayed in The Rocks for the first week, my MIL got us the weekend in the oldest hotel in the county there, beautiful. Did SO much, the ghost tour, bridge walk, even lived my dream of going to the Opera House, P.of P. thankyou lol, you name it we or I did it LOL ... wife would not do the tower crawl or the zip drop (hehe I did). From there we went to Perth and stayed in a nice quiet rental condo. Did all we could there as well. Went to the island, sand tour, the hoo doo things, the zoo, swam in the Indioan Ocean (bucket list). Finally Darwin, Jennifer and her husband moved there for work, he was in LP distribution. It was jellyfish season so no swimming but we toured the outback, went to the Anzac memorial out there and the natural history museum. Funniset thing was our pool was closed during the day and open at night (for visitors safety ... the sun!! lol) Not a ton to do in Darwin but we did enjoy the visiting of friends. Flew into Brisbane to continue on to Fiji for 8 days then New Zealand for another six. (Missed the Chrisychurch tragedy by 9 days!! God rest their souls) We wer gone for a very long time and loved every second of it!!!
So I do feel like an Aussie and will go again for sure, we want to retire to Fiji or Jamaica. So if Fiji it will be several. =)
Long story short, I would be game at trading or BSing with any of you kiwis or blokes any old time. I miss the Swouth Pacific dearly.
