I have a couple cards listed in the database from the late 1990's that don't have images. They are glossy cards, and, as with too many of the 90's era glossies, some of the cards stuck together and when separated, there was some ink transfer/loss, resulting in some small white spots on the card (I bought unopened packs and the cards were unfortunately stuck together when I got them). My question is whether it's better to upload images of the cards with the damage or to just wait and let someone with a better version upload the images.. I'm inclined to the former, especially since images can be updated, but wanted other opinions before I proceeded.

The only time that damaged cards are ok to post is vintage or extremly rare sets. It is better to leave the listing without images.

I agree we should have a good one up there, but as someone who uses the pictures to try and identify what I have I would prefer a picture of a damaged one and then have it immediately tagged for replacement.

In my opinion, at this point, any set older than the site itself is fair game. 11 years is long enough to get an image of a good card up here. Just PLEASE be sure to tag it as Image Needs Replacement - Low Quality. Then, when someone does have a mint one, they can replace it very easily.

I tend to agree that any image is better than none. I have a large and getting larger collection of non-sports inserts that have multiple variations and it can be quite difficult to tell which variation you have until you have all the different one in your hand. What you said is accurate in that when a better image becomes available then it can be uploaded. I have uploaded better images and missing images from my collection that date from the early 90's. I have even found cards in my collection that were unknown until I contacted the site about them. Now they are added and have scans for future collectors to refer to.
I was reminded some time ago that this is an interactive ite that is only possible if we all chip in. The more info we have, the more accurate we are.

I prefer to see an image of the card. If I don't know what a card looks like, I probably won't trade for it.

I saw the best cards of my generation destroyed by creases, soft cornered hysterical edge wear, dragging themselves through the hobby shops at dawn looking for a top loader...

Definitely better to have a damaged image than none at all;someone can always update the damaged scan when one is added/found.....so,YES on the damaged image

I saw this question pop up while I was logged into my other account, so glad it came back up. I've long been an advocate of having an image is better than nothing. Unless the card is ripped in thirds or something, I think a rounded courner or bent up is good enough until a better card or scan comes along. Honestly its why I stopped working on the cropping aspect of the site. It seemed the slightest mistake was getting tagged preventing cards from being added. While I hope people get better as they scan, some cards were being denied just because they weren't "perfect". I understand cards that were obviously too cropped, photos of cards, too pixelated and such, but some looked fine to me, and were denied because of "low quality". It would be akin to walking on the street and seeing a $100 bill and passing it up because it had some footprints on it and didn't look crisp. It can always be upgraded later.

Agree. My primary interest is vintage, especially regionals and oddballs. For some cards, a damaged specimen may be all that exists.

Will trade for women's basketball, vintage Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates certified and TTM/IP autos, WNBA autos, '70s food issues and oddballs, 1979-80 Topps and OPC hockey, vintage basketball and soccer.
