I have been buying bulk football retail packs from Dave and Adams the last couple of years. I feel that quite often I am getting a very minimal return as the rookies that I am looking for are slim to none. Example: Of the 40 packs that I opened for 2018 football. I have had 0 Lamar Jackson rookie cards. Since I am in to collecting versus selling, I go for the lower end product that has a much higher chance of having these cards.My question is this.....is this a consitent pattern from Dave and Adam's as I have had two years in a row with the same results or is my luck just crappy? Before someone says it, I know that I could have purchased those cards on Ebay as singles, but a huge part of my collection addiction is pack ripping and the surprise of finding a "good card". Guess that makes me old school and a purist.

From my experience, I don't see any differences in the base cards between retail and hobby packs. It's just luck of the draw. Your main difference is going to be that the retail packs won't have as many hits (autos, parallels, etc.).

I remember when the Connor McDavid Young Gun card was the hot card for 2015-16 Upper Deck hockey.  I bought a bunch from a couple of my Local Card Stores.  Never got that card in the hobby issue.  I just happened to buy the few packs that were left at the local Target store and lo and behold the retail came through and I got my McDavid Young Gun.

Most of the best cards that I have in my collection actually came from retail at Target.  

Panini is very well known for having the same cards come out of the packs in the same order, including even the inserts and parallels! That might be playing a role.

I agree with Billy.  I bought 24 repacks and got 3 same color insert cards of the same player,
