Is it safe to store Cards in 9 Pocket pages in Albums and lay them down flat as opposed to standing? I know this topic has been discussed before but I would like to rediscuss as I am looking at doing something different. We have boxes at my workplace that hold an Album perfectly and also allows me the room to store extra Team Sets and Players that I PC. This keeps everyhting in the same place and easy to organize. I know some don't like 9 Pocket Pages period but I have used them for 25+ years with no issues. I had a Verlander Rookie kept in one for 13 years and sent it in to PSA and got a GEM MINT 10 so no issue with the 9 Pockets just want info on storing laying down. I have a couple or three Sets in the Wal Mart Specials with a Binder and 100 pages but most all are in Ultra Pro Platinum. TIA...Hal

I've stored the majority of my cards in binders laid flat for over 30 years now and haven't had a single issue with them, even pages with 2 cards per pocket. I must add that mine don't sit in one place for long periods of time though. I am in all my albums rather frequently pulling cards for trades and sometimes just looking through them.

Actually I have and still do it both ways: Standing up and laying down.
However, my favorite way recently is to hang them, like hanging files.
No issues that come with laying them down or standing them up.

I have three binders and I have them laying down. I have almost always kept my binders laying down since I returned ot the hobby in 1993.

I've done it in the past, however, I have found that a couple, especially, the more full binders, the ring would lay on the cards and the ones in those particular spots under the ring had some indentions.
Not something I've seen a ton, but it has happened a couple times to me.

That's why you get sheet lifters, to keep the pages from sliding under the rings. I also use them at the front of the album to keep pages from slipping up on top of the rings.

OK now I have to ask what are Sheet lifters? I mean it sounds easy enough to understand. Can I get them at Wally World and or Staples? I'm OCD and put my Binders down or up very tidy but any mechanical advantages would be a definite plus.

It's a piece of hard plastic that goes into 2 or 3 of the rings. I doubt you can get them at Walmart, but you should be able to find them at Staples. You can definitely find them online. They are pretty cheap but very effective. You can find them for under a dollar per pair. They used to actually come inside of notebooks that you'd find in school supply sections of stores, but not anymore.

I actually have eliminated all my binders. They take up more room than I can spare. I use boxes for everything. From small plastics for subsets/inserts to 200 to 800 set cardboards for sets and 3200 or 5000 for commons. Shoe boxes for money cards.
