I am a huge Star Wars fan; have been for years. I am committing to adding Star Wars cards to my collection. My internal struggle is: currently I am far more interested in the new Disney established canon than the old EU (side note: I KNOW that much of the EU is far better written than some or even most of the new stuff available, but I just don't have time to keep all the facts straight in my head so I have moved forward embracing new canon). This includes not just the movies but the cartoons, upcoming live action series, novels, comics; everything that Disney has said is part of the new canon timeline. So for my PC, do I keep my collection limited also to new canon (which does not eliminate all SW cards from pre-Disney acquisition, but does eliminate some)? I will have all Han Solo cards at least in my collection regardless of canon eligibility or not, but I think I can be happy without chasing every single SW card that existed before Disney, but I am not completely certain. If it were you, what would you do?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Being an all-things "Storm" collector, I have to be restrictive on the new batch of Star Wars (Stormtrooper) items. I'm torn on Disney's "mass-marketing" strategy - glad that there's a ton of new Stormtrooper stuff to collect, but frustrated that there's a ton of new Stormtrooper stuff to collect!
My decisions on what to buy are more based on price, utility, or its potential for display. Doesn't make much sense to buy a bunch of stuff, only to pack it up in a box, out of sight. With cards, at least I can fill up binders & flip through them occasionally.
As for your old vs. new dilemma, focusing on the new movies' canon may be cheaper & more readily available. Just be patient & let the "flippers" hunting for "hits" plow through the expensive, new products - there will be plenty left to collect once the dust settles.

I'll just say, I completely dislike Disney's approach on Star Wars. I have not watched any of the new movies and doubt I will. I loved the EU that was built out over the past 30+ years. To think, all that work and love those authors put into their writins, the effort they made to make it a connected universe, all for naught. I read every book (not the comics, not canon to me) that was written from the 80s on and everything felt right. When beat writiers were happy the EU went away they picked away at certain pieces (like how Chewie dies), but had never read the books and how it all fit together. Their criticism meant nothing to me. Disney's mass marketing is abhorrent and ruins the aura of the franchise. I've been to Hollywood Studios in Orlando during the conversion and it seems like the franchise is being wasted away for a few more dollars.
With that said, I do still need to pick up the original movie cards and only those.

I too am a huge fan of the SW universe but find myself somewhwere in a mix. I too dislike all the Disney changes and am with jimetal when it comes to the TRUE SW universe. For me it will always be the original. However I am enjoying the new ones enough to watch and own. Absolutely hate how they made the Solo's a family of "today" and the storytelling in them has been weak at best but then the sci-fi guy in me can not stop from watching. Favorite of the new batch by far is Rogue One. Loved the story and the ideas, favorite character hands down was the blind asian guy and his sidekick. I will be buying Disney+ in November so I can watch all SW at the press of a button. Comics ARE cannon and must be read!! LOL I own every book and comic since 1997 in 1st print edition and am slowly getting all the ones from pre Heir to the Empire in 1sts as well. Long story and no answer right? Do what you feel is right, I only collect Skywalker family, Darth Vader and Stormtrooper/Empire guys in 3 3/4" because I would die trying otherwise. Its your collection and your imagination do what feels "right" ....... see the angle there?? LOL If not your not a SW geek.

If money and space is a concern, I'd say stick with the new stuff. There's a lot less of it, although the money part may be undone with the fact that they are doing more high end sets.
I tend to feel much like Jim does except the comics absolutely count...I even got a letter in one. Wish I could remember which one...I went into the new movie with high hopes but was very disappointed...I will not watch any more, last one I saw was Rogue One. And I rented it from the local library.
I do still collect some of the current comics although I'm about 3 years behind in reading them. I like Dr. Aphra...only good character from the Disney era in my opinion.
If they had done a soft reboot (the Yuuzhung Vong invasion was a Force vision, easy out) I would have been much more supportive, but they really truly missed the mark...and throwing away everything made me walk away. I have not even watched the original movies since 2015, something I never imagined would ever happen. The new movies seem more like a fanfic than part of a grand, deep universe, like everything else that came before did. I feel like they did it because they were too lazy to bother to read it, which makes it so much worse. If it had been bad, I could have understood that, but it wasn't...for the most part. There were a few clunkers and some things I didn't like, but with thousands of parts that's to be expected.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Cardboard History My COMC New Collection Website: Cardboard History Gallery (Still under construction) Tips on how to make your scans look like the card does in hand (No more washed out, fuzzy scans!):

for your collection, choose what you like as for disney disgraceful efforts except rogue one they need to go back to original lore and not make anymore rubbish, disgarding canon just because they didnt like / want it just shows how money hungry disney is, i am so worried that they will crap all over most 20th century fox movies like predator / aliens etc and reboot them worse than the sequels we have already have. as for the Solo family having a little biatch like kylo ren makes you laugh and they should have stuck with canon on that one (pretty sure they have a daughter as well)
ill still watch whatever they bring out as i have seen all except new hope in cinemas on release, same as ill doo with james bond if they turn him into a chick
just have to wait and see how this new movie looks, will it be a reboot of return of the jedi or bits of other star wars movies put together to make a new mess
thats just my rant as i believe canon should never be changed, added to yes but never changed no matter how much $$$$ they want to make

If you go by the books the Solo's had 2 sons and a daughter. One of the sons (Ben, yes named after you-know-who) dies.
And I'll make this note on the comics. I never discounted them, per se, I just never read them so not sure where they fit into the old canon. Apparantly, they were vital to it so I lost out on some key stuff.

Myself I try to collect all of the Star Wars cards that come out. Base sets and Inserts. But alot of high ends product has came out and can't get them and my baseball at the same time so I have to pick and chose. Basic I get hobby boxes of around $100 range and anything over like masterworks that is $200 and you cant even make a set out of 4 boxes I get off Ebay set around $100. Saves time and money with no hits. But I got a set of that product.

They literally scraped bits and pieces of alot of books into the two movies so far, the world breaking apart is in the Vong books, the large weapon is in the Solo books, etc. Like they put them all in a blender in a way. Is the girl going to turn out to be Mara Jade type charater or a clone. Who the hell knows!! LOL
