For those seasoned checklisters, especially of tobacco cards I have a question. I recently purchased a few awesome cards from eBay. They are from the 1914-1915 Sweet Caporal World War 1 (T121) set. The set didn't exist in here so I created it. Now I am about to upload the checklist (1st one I've ever done), but I had a question. I verified the checklist off of 2 sites, PSA (https://www.psacard.com/psasetregistry/non-sports/company-sets/1914-1915-sweet-caporal-world-war-scenes-t121/alltimeset/223265) and Northeastern University (http://www1.coe.neu.edu/~dan/T121/go.html and http://www1.coe.neu.edu/~dan/T121/checklist.html). What my question deals with exactly how the cards are named. Example, I have #125 in hand. If you go off of those 2 sites the card is named Starbrouck Fort After. On the back in bold (only the picture on the front) is Starbrouck Fort After its Destruction by Belgians to Prevent Falling Into German Hands.
Easy answer is to using the naming from the sites, but will that violate commonly accetped checklisting rules? And yes, I did consulte the guideline. I have the checklist ready to upload, just want to make sure it's right first.
BTW, did I say how awesome it is to own tobacco cards!!!! I got 3 from this set and 5 from the Flags of All Nations set for under $20 w/ shipping and they look great

I believe enough to distinguish is acceptable, you might be able to fit the whole thing, but it makes the checklist look odd. Personally, I typically do first five words on a long titled card like that, adding an extra if that leads to ending in it's/a/the/etc.
Interested to hear others input as this seems to happen frequently in non sports also.

The whole thing seems awkwardly long. I think Kyle's method makes perfect sense.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Just enough words to distinguish it from others is sufficient. I also prefer using ellipsis. "Starbrouck Fort after..."

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

You stole that ellipsis from Lucy

I'm torn on the ellipsis. There are a few card titles that legit end in them, and continue the text in smaller font. So how to distinguish that the title is longer than posted here or that's all there is could be an issue. Regardless, there must be a space before it or my grammar Nazi will surface

I have a card from that set but was unable to find a checklist. Copying other people's abbreviations is a bad idea...that's how Beckett shuts down websites. Beckett doesn't care about non-sports but do the other two? I don't want to find out. If you have the full name, use it. Also, nothing looks stupider than a caption that cuts off mid-word, as we have in many places in non-sports. Well, maybe when making up NNO when there's clearly a number associated with the card.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. PSA, at least, doesn't care. They aren't in the business of selling checklists and are frequently referenced to here when they don't have enough information to grade a set (though they seem to prefer Beckett for some odd reason after Standard Catalog).

For all we know they copied off each other. I didn't go card by card, but from scanning through both lists they look almost alike. In fairness to the ellipsis, the college uses it, but not PSA. Some of these title look long and the checklist is going to look awkward when some of them are 20ish words. Not copying any abbreviations, heck I don't think there were any there. I'm fairly certin that I can do it up so that there is an ellipsis added, but in a more logical location (for those that are long).
