Me, Trust me, I'm in the "old geezer" group. So with that said I'll not mention dates. My collecting started quite early, probably @10, seriously. It continued to HS with sporadic breaks along the way. My college and early married life pretty much ended steady collecting but my collection remained intact, mostly FB and BB with some old Non-Sports. Some of my collection traveled with me wherever I moved, But most of it was stored in my parent's attic. As the years passed, I started and stopped many times. Some castrophies along the way: Workers insulating my parents attic helped themselves to my collection of cards and yearbooks, certianly vintage by now. I had to throw away almost all my low number '89 UD as I found a tree root growing through my floor and wall ruining the cards. Anyway the sporadic collecting continued and the collection grew. I made a huge mistake in trading ALL my vintage Non-Sports for, at the time, ALL RCs. I entertained the idea of opening a shop someday but settled for doing shows in their heyday. I was making good "show money" at the time [$1000/show]. Also at the time I inherited some money. A good friend of mine owned an antique store, with a massive “Card Wing”. He wanted out, I wanted in, so I bought his inventory at an insanely good price, and continued turning over the cash at shows. I couldn't maintain a store, so the card inventory ended up in my house, ALL over the place. My cash flow turned into buying more cards and cards and cards! When I moved to my present house, I added an environmentally controlled basement for my hobby. I needed a separate moving truck to move all the cards. I had to slide the boxes through the basement window little by little in a conveyor belt system I rigged up. When all was said and down, THE CARD ROOM turned into 4 CARD ROOMS. And the card count is astronomical! By that time Shows and Shops pretty much dried up around here, so I turned to eBay, Sportslots etc. The TCDB has made such a huge impact on my now collecting habits, I've changed priorities and as many of you learned, I'm trimming the collection down. So interested in cards and memorabilia?, Just PM me and we can chat.
