Focus is good. When I got in a dabbled in everything until I settled on what I love the most, and wanted originally as I got back in...my Tigers. Good luck and happy collecting!

That's still a wide focal point on the collection, but at least it refines it some. As you start to make some ground on some of these, you'll focus harder on the ones that get closer to completion. Then you'll expand again, and focus again, and etc., and etc., and etc. That's what is takes to stay sane in this hobby. My main focus just for MLB cards is any Cardinals cards I don't have yet (and all wants are listed here). I obtained over 3,000 cards from that Wantlist this year! But I also sort some cards into high-priority as I did in the summer. Not only did I acquire my first Stan Musial vintage card, but I got 3 of them in a month or so. I almost completed my Lou Brock 1969-1979 goal too (still one short). But I also added tons of cards for the non-STL players that I collect (about 12) just through trades this year. I added nearly 200 Griffey Jr. cards to my collection, JUST b/c they were in my Wantlist. And that's just one example.
For the Topps sets, I'd like to suggest something. Pick the 2 sets where you have the most cards and focus on completing them. If you add them to your Wantlist, traders will come to you. But it helps if you have some traders listed. OR (if you make a wantlist), you can see traders who have those cards. Then you can look at their Wantlist and see what you might have for them and send an offer after you add the cards as Traders.
Good Luck with all of it. I have tons of cards to trade and not everything is listed yet. It was, but then all these other cards felll in my lap. Now I need to get those added and it is many thousands of cards.

Tottally not trying to complete them all at once... I am doing 84 first so I can learn the trading game and then i will do two at a time starting with 83 and 85, then 82 and 86 and so on.. only topps though.... but for HOF any here is a screen shot of my supply order from yesterday I also have a label maker and plastic "sleeves" for the front of the boxes to slide the labels in... say i fill up a 100 count box and need to upgrade to a 200 i can just slide the label out of the 100 into the 200 and the collection will stay orginized

Curious why you chose 1984 because it looks like you have zero of those in your collection?

I have a very similar collecting focus although I collect Topps football. I started with just the years '69 through '86. I thought that would keep me busy for a little while. I'm well over 90% complete with those years so I expanded my collection to include '56 through '13. '56 through '67 are going to be the tough ones for me (not much for trade on TCDB).
I can help with your Topps Baseball goals. I have tens of thousands of Topps Baseball from '79 to '02. I'm more than happy to trade those for Topps football.
Good luck!

For years I was a set builder. Any and all set (football) (at one time over 200 sets). As the years went on it become harder (price wise) to build sets. Then I started to down size and focus only on my PC of my Nebraska Cornhuskers. I'm down to Topps sets from 79 - 2012 and a few others set plus a few 1000s singles list here.
Plus close to 200,000 card from my nephew's collection.
I really have to focus focus focus to get cards for my PC and not go off with other stuff.
