How many different baseball sets does Topps have now?
Does anyone else find this a bit ridiculous?

Perhaps a novel idea, but I will be passing. I was buying the Detroit Topps Now cards, but stopped after year two. I have enough to collect, even though a few cards may become of value, after 50 years of collecting, I will stick to what works for me. PASS

I would think that this will become a nightmare when cataloging the set.

Nightmare to catalog.
Nightmare to try to collect.
It's just a flat out nightmare!

Do we list it as a 2018 set forever?
Do we list it as a 2019 set when cards come out next year?
I'm a hard pass on this set. Too pricey for something not that special. The 53 design is nice and all but it doesn't have any special place in my heart. I also think the drawings are kinda meh.

I was going to say something along the lines of, "I'm almost glad Topps doesn't have the NBA license anymore" but then I realized Panini will probably copy it next year.
I can see one benefit to this...if they get around to players who are usually ignored in base sets. I think baseball does a better job of getting people onto cards, but in the NBA they only bother to give cards to 290 of 525 players in a year...so, if that was the only way to get a player otherwise ignored, then I would say it's a good idea. And I would buy them for players otherwise missing from my all-time NBA collection.
The design being recycled is a downer. Something like this and something all-encompassing as this sounds like really should have gotten it's own unique design. And drawings? Uh, why? We live in the 21st century. You can take dozens of photos in a minute's time. I personally could get you a good photograph of every player on the field in a single inning with plenty of options to choose from. That seems like a "cop-out"...as in, "well, it's already a drawing so let's just change the team! and issue it again"
These being only available for a week is stupid. If Topps wanted lots of money, which being a buisness I think I can say with some certainty that they do, make them available to order. They tease Aaron Judge as #1. If you want Aaron Judge but don't find out about it until 3 months from now, well...tough luck. But, if it was always going to be available, you could order it whenever you wanted, and Topps could continue making money on Judge or anybody else for as long as they are active players. Think about how much money they are leaving on the table by self-limiting this to 7 days. It's mind-boggling.
I actually see potential in the concept...but failure in the execution.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. You figured they would have to move to something new, the Topps Now program isn't doing as well as originally thought outside of the baseball releases. The baseball cards do really well but there are plenty of WWF, MMA, EPL and MLS Topps Now cards that have a print run around 50 cards, not really worth their time to print those cards.
I would not be surprised to see them stop the Topps Now program for other sports outside of baseball before too long and depending on how the Live program goes we may see even baseball Topps Now go the way of eTopps. I actually liked the eTopps program.

Even if I did collect current players, I'd have to pass on this.

I've already passed on Topps Now (since the beginning), so why would Topps think they can win me into more garbage that's not worth the money to buy or the time to catalogue? I'm not going to rant about Topps right now (or Panini) with the whole online exclusive purchase crap. I'll just say that it needs to stop. Sell cards in boxes, packs, and factory sets, not in bubble mailers!
