Year: 1992

Set: Topps - Gold Winners (Rate)

Card: #560 Rickey Henderson

“ I've always liked this design but in the past few years I have begun to appreciate them more. Wish the scan wasn't so washed out. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ These cards are the same as the gold foil parallel except they say Winner. What do you win? ” -carthage44

“ Were these the original parallel series (along with the regular gold that year)? Well framed photo for the design...literally. ” -rmpaq5

“ Man look at that "row of red" under Stolen Bases. None greater. ” -RoyalChief

“ This card is a winner! ” -sahal694

“ Hey this gold foil scan looks good I can actually read Rickey's name and Athletics. In real life sometimes that is even hard with these "gold" cards. Thus one of the many reasons I don't like the use of foil leaf for cards. ” -captkirk42

“ Used to sit out in the left field bleachers in Toronto screaming "Riiiiiiickeyyyyyyyyyyyy"... Good times. ” -SFC Temple

“ Well, it's a gold parallel. That's about all I have to say about that. ” -switzr1

“ A weird dude, but he could sure play some baseball. ” -wax_house

“ Winner winner chicken dinner. I remember these parallels were a huge deal back in 1992 commanding some decent money. Now filler for the dime boxes, but still a great addition to any player or team collection. ” -cynicalbuddha

“ Nice scan of a really nice card. I have always liked the 92 Topps set and love finding the Gold variations. ” -cckeith

“ This was the first set I became familiar with the concept of a parallel set and spent all of my allowance trying to buy these cards in the hopes of getting a gold card. At the time, the concept was new to me and I loved them. Over the next 25 years, they went a little nuts, but I will always have a spot in my heart for these. I wasn't familiar with the concept of the "Gold Winner" though. What exactly was one? I ask, knowing that I can trust the community to give an answer! ” -muskie027

“ By winner do they mean steals title winner? Which one are they referring to? ” -DarkSide830

It's been awhile, but, I believe the gold cards were inserted parallels, while the gold "winner" cards (also a parallel) were something you could win packs of through their "match the stats" game. Anyone feel free to correct me if you remember better, lol.

i would hold those match the stats cards up to a light bulb and be able to see thru that scratch off stuff well enough to pick the winner almost every time....

There were the "gold" cards, that looked just like this card but without the "Winner". They were available as inserts in packs. I forget the insertion rates. There was a scratch-off contest card in each pack. If you got one that said Winner under the stratch off, you could mail the card in an get 5 of the Gold Winner cards.

The scratch cards had you match 3 of the same stat.  If you scratched three and all had the same stat, you "won" a 10 card pack of Gold Winners.  I had a ton of these as I found out you could see through them with a pen light and make them ALL winners.  No idea what I did with them all, I don't have many left.

The regular gold parallels without the "Winner" text were randomly inserted into packs and I think I found one and opened boxes of that stuff.
