If sorting by set is too overwhelming, then sort by team. At least it is something to start the process. And then sort those again by player name.
If you know the card either in the Topps 2022 Flagship box or the Pittsburgh Pirates box, it has to be much easier than I have to look every single one up.

Hmmm i'll give that a thought or 2 and a go, that may be a great idea to use here on TCDB, just need to brush up on those guys that switched teams a lot like Maddux and Scherzer and Dollar Tree here i come for some index cards. Yes of course i will start with the Phillies lol.
Thanks Cod

Across the 4 major North American sports (professional) there are less than 150 teams. That's gotta be easier to work with than trying to organize around 1000's of sets and subsets etc.
Yes, there are a lot more say soccer teams, but that is a relatively low part of your inventory and you can de-prioritize tackling that.
Sorted by team split up with index cards, bags to hold up incomplete rows is exactly how my collection is organized. Within the team sections ,whether you sort by set or player is up to you (I suspect for your needs by player would be easier, but that's a personal choice).
In particular if a lot of your orders are clearly from team collectors.

Yes i'm thinking alpha by player, by team, ooh yeah lets not think of soccer lol no shortage of that here along with racing as you stated not priority.
Most do have a preferred team and then usually HOF type favorites.
Well certainly this weekend the wife and i will be having lots of conversation and definitely come up with a game plan to tackle this as there are way tooo many nice cards that need to get to those who have been looking for them for years.
Thanks again, the pictures getting clearer ...

Having made a couple of purchases already, I would add that both times it was difficult to find cards. I don’t mind browsing the site but I do get tired after the fifth page or so.
I feel that the site doesn’t necessarily need full details on every single card. Maybe just a name so player collectors can find what they’re looking for by being able to search by a name. Set collectors can do half the work themselves by finding out the player they need from a set and then search by name.

I like that just wondering if everyone would be ok with that?
So if i type gretzky in the search i'd have for example to only look through 40 cards vs the entire site page after page.
Going to try that for the rest of today and see how that looks and feels.
Thank you for your feedback and suggestion and input!

Since I am a team collector, and I don't always go for the popular names when picking up cards, going by name probably wouldn't be as ideal as by team, but I understand that it might be more useful to some.

If you're going to remain on your web site, I would suggest incorporating the same data points you see here:
Year
Set Name
Card Number
Player / Card Name
Team
If the search results bring up only 2022 cards when I search for "2022", then at least I could find the 2022s.
Seriously though, anything that actually returns all the valid results of any search term entered would be a huge improvement.
RE: Storage for listing here
If you followed my method, you'd have separate boxes for each sport - stored in the same order they would be listed here. Therefore, theoretically, you'd start in Box 1 of Sport A, and just move through the boxes following the list(s) of cards ordered. (Alternatively, you could keep track of the contents of each box [like I do for my baseball inventory], and then you would know which box number to go to for the 1989 Fleer #34 that was ordered.)
Another thing I thought of was the possibility of orders coming in for the same cards, and I honestly don't know if there is foolproof way of preventing that. Accepting each transaction immediately upon receiving it could stop duplicate orders from coming in, but if someone was working one up at the same time, it would wind up duplicating. We might be able to suggest something to Admin as a means of preventing a "Purchase" from going through if one or more of the cards requested is no longer in the seller's inventory. (I would only approach him if you're serious about porting your sales to the TCDB platform.) At the same time, we could also request that the transaction manager page shows the cards' comments for our own side only. Those 2 tweaks to the system would benefit you greatly. But it also would benefit the site greatly to have all of your traffic here. (I mean, having someone with a 5 million-card inventory available for sale - to both the US and Canada and possibly internationally [obviously at different rates] - at such great prices would surely be a boon for the site.)

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 3/4/2024). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned on (details are in my profile).

In regards to one of the earlier question of how to get the cards to people who need/want them, I have seen a number of people recently mentioning (myself included, tbh) that they are looking for Starter Sets of certain years of certain sets. Is that something that makes sense for you to look at offering?

The variety and mix within most boxes may make it tough but there are those that do come together in bunches of the same and when it comes to sets there are hardly any i leave behind as Bob used to say, if the Price is Right.
Never did give starter sets much of a thought as most sets are available in complete form, perhaps not as much fun but likely more cost efficient in the long run.
