Year: 1998

Set: Pacific Online (Rate)

Card: #242 Greg Colbrunn

“ I was a huge Pacific fan at the time but still never liked the design of this set. It didn't stop me from collecting the base set, red parallel, & gold web parallel sets. I did love that this set included pretty much every active player on each team's roster as of early June 1998 (25 players per team). ” -trauty

“ That's a bright flashy card! Something that definitely catches the eye......might have to look into that set! ” -Gator415

“ Cards like this frustrate me because i cant think of anything positive to say. . Gross card. ” -parsley24

“ Not a huge fan, but its not too bad. I would collect it. ” -BasketbalHQ

“ Every time I see one of these cards I think it is a Topps insert from a somewhat recent year. What was that insert set called where you had to find the differences of the pictures? Yeah I think of that insert set. ” -captkirk42

“ I love everything about this set except the white stripe with the URL. ” -switzr1

“ You'll note the web address for the Rockies toward the top of the card. In 1998, teams still did their own websites. It was interesting to see the "flavor" of each franchise, kind of like comparing yearbooks, programs, or pocket schedules. Now, everything is generic so the 30 teams can more easily share web-generated revenue. Yawn. ” -Dave Sosidka

“ Saw a box of these opened recently and they're intriguing. Unfortunately, the player websites no longer exist, but still a very clean design. ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ Pacific in the 1997-2001 time frame had some remarkably good ideas, despite being the #4 card company after Topps, Upper Deck & Fleer (conglomeration with / Donruss/ Pinnacle / Skybox) This set was an interesting concept, but this gimmick was not for me. Give me Pacific Paramount, Crown Collection, Revolution, Invincible, Prism and leave this set on the heap. ” -abide

Some interesting ideas, certainly has all the marks of a very 90's style of card. I don't feel these have aged well though.

I did like this set because it offered the only cards (or some of the last cards) of several players in uniform for my team (Ron Villone, Pat Borders, and Alvin Morman, for instance).  Because of that, I can ignore the large URL on the front of the card.
