Year: 1988

Set: Fleer Update - Glossy (Rate)

Card: #U-121 Scott Terry

“ I've always felt like this design should have been reserved for one of Fleer's umpteen retail-only 33-card boxed sets during the late '80s. As it is, however, I don't mind the 'candy stripe' motif of '88 Fleer. And I especially enjoy the splits on the back card. ” -mkaz80

“ Probably my least favorite Fleer set of the 80's. I remembered being so disappointed by these after the 1987's which were some of my favorites. ” -DocOso

“ So-so design. Poor scan of back. ” -cjjt

“ Always good to see a Cardinal. ” -Brimose

“ nice neo-vintage 1980s fleer. For all the times I got a bunch of these back in the day I still don't have a full set of them. Not sure where my set stands on this. Yeah I'm Mr. Unorganized. ” -captkirk42

“ Loved this set. Kind of a simple BG. Good photo into border. ” -parsley24

“ I've come to really like this Fleer design. Never have seen a Glossy in person, but the regular cards from Fleer were always pretty nice! ” -muskie027

“ Action shot on front is good. The design is simple and functional. I give this card: ” -CollectingAfterDeath

I always referred to this as the candy cane set. Wasn't one of my favs then. Then when I started to get cards signed, I liked it because of its lighter background.

Ok card. Never really collected this set though. Terry played his first professional season with their Class A-Advanced Tampa Tarpons in 1983.

One of my favorite Fleer sets, and Fleer was my favorite manufacturer in the 80s.  Scott made a guest appearance in the broadcast booth during a recent Cardinals game.  I think he runs a baseball academy in STL now or something.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
