Random Card of the Day

Year: 1992

Set: Fleer (Rate)

Card: #271 Wesley Carroll

“ I believe I owned some of these back in my football collecting days before I started focusing only on baseball. I love the full picture on the back and helmetless. I feel bad for football players and to some extent hockey because of the helmets covering their faces you have very little recognition outside of a few stars. ” -davidhandberry

“ Great looking card. Proves that sometimes simple is better. ” -parsley24

“ "When the Saints Go Marchin' in..." I like the 1992 Fleer with the team logo as a shield. It complements the Saints logo very well. Could use a few more stats or something on the back, oh wait looks like this is his Rookie card. Team name on front would be cool at the top maybe? Or under the team logo shield? Very nice card overall. ” -captkirk42

“ I like putting the team logo in the NFL shield. Clever ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ Typical 90s. Better than most modern issues. ” -Soldan

“ If I collected football, this is the type of set I would want. Front: Team logo (alternate versions?), name and position are very clear, and the brand logo, while visible, is small enough to not take over the card. Back: Big number for easy sorting, nice use of a second photo, and a clean layout. Only drawback: 4 years of stats is the max. ” -vrooomed

“ Solid looking set. Good photo. I like it. ” -switzr1

“ Blah. ” -beansballcardblog

“ Too bad this was an over-produced set. Overall, clean design. Good pictures. ” -cjjt

All these years later and I still like the 1992 Fleer NFL set. Such a clean design and great photos on both sides. Why didn't they use this design for any other sport? It's certainly better than the '91 and '92 MLB designs and way better than the '91-92 and '92-93 NBA designs.

I can't fully agree with you, as I didn't care for this set.  I liked the 92 Fleer baseball set and the 91-92 basketball set, but I agree this design was better than 91 baseball and 92-93 basketball sets.  I wasn't a big fan of Fleer football in the early 90's, I preferred Score the most.

I missed commenting on this, so I wanted to do it here, because I think it is worth commenting.  I didn't collect these for some reason back in the day, I only had a pack.  I think I was overwhelmed by all the additional football options after only having Topps for so long and had to tap out on some sets.  I am going to go back and pick some of these up on the cheap.  It is a great looking card, I really love it.  Very simply, full picture, like the logo on the shield and the full pick on the back.  A clean non-gimmicky looking card.  Fleer did a great job with this one.  Would I call it an all time great set?  No.  But I like it.
