Set: Topps Micro (Rate)

Card: #703 Juan Agosto

“ I have all 3 of these sets, and what a terrible concept. Glad they stopped at 3. ” -vrooomed

“ I am unfamiliar with these cards and cannot get a good feel for their micro-ness. Perhaps the image could be shown next to a penny or deuterium atom for purposes of size comparison. ” -revnorb

“ Oh, these Micro sets were so small. I had the 1992 set. Not much bigger than a postage stamp. An interesting addition to a collection. I like odd-sized and odd-shaped cards. ” -switzr1

“ Wow, when they say Micro, they MEAN it! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ It's so cute!! ” -bplay24

“ The Astros got caught up in the '80s with these unis. And god, that's a small card. ” -jlaz10

“ How do you store these things? ” -volbox

“ Awe... It's so CUTE! I can't even read it... ” -Dixxy

“ I dislike the mini card concept. I don't even pay attention to them. I just toss them all in a box ” -Young Kilo

“ I like micro cards. Not sure why, but I do. The details have to be that much better I think. ” -suomibear8

“ so teeny tiny ” -cynicalbuddha

These could have been cool. I have 2 of the 3 sets. But Topps just did a bad job with them. ALmost all are badly cut or off centered. The backs are sometimes blurry and the pink ink some splotched on the white and some big white spots on the pink

The craziest thing about these sets is that the 1993 set, because of the Jeter rookie, goes for $40 or more on ebay. The 91-92 sets are usually $5-10. I guess the reason is because the micro Jeter rookie, if you can find one centered well enough to be graded a 10, is valued at $500 and above.

Oh yeah.. these are also very hard to scan and crop because of how easy they move around when scanning and how bad the centering is. Often looks badly cropped even when cropped as perfectly as possible

We sheeted these in 20-pocket pages. Why? My son was 10 at the time and thought they were cool. As the one who sorts the sets into numerical order before sheeting, I can tell you this, they are HECK to sort!

I have 2 of the Jeter RCs. Both of center and blurry. My Chipper from '91 is perfect though. I don't think they'll ever bet much value to these. They were printed in China, so there are probably 10 million of these in storage somewhere. And you could fit almost 4 a slot in tobacco pages.

Oh, there's a clock in my head and despite what it said, another one on the wall. They don't agree at all...
