This is an interesting set. I would give a higher rating (I gave a 7.0) but it lacks some stars of the era that should be in the set. Getting permission may have been the problem. Cards are well made on good stock. Photos are pretty nice for the era. Bio’s on back can be entertaining and informational. @WillBigbear…I’m not sure about the gloss issue, but there is a Gold Foil parallel to the set at which I have a few. They seem to be pretty low ratio into the set. If there is a gloss difference, I wouldn’t know because every card I have is gloss. The cards were distributed in packs and set boxes so it’s possible there was a gloss differential in that way. And @Bkklaos…I can’t figure out why a puzzle piece from the Donruss Stargell puzzle were in your pack, but the only reason I can think of is that maybe Sterling hired Donruss to print the cards and somehow a puzzle piece made it’s way into a pack, or several, who knows. A strange occurrence for sure since it’s not advertised anywhere that this was intentional. The set run didn’t last long as I believe production only exists for 2 years, 1992 to 1993.

Nice little set, was wondering, is there a variation set? I recently bought some loose packs and was able to make a set but all of the cards didn't have any gloss on them. I have had a few cards in the past and they had gloss on them, so is this an error or would be a variation? The boxed set are glossy cards and packs were non-glossy?

Just a funny side note...my boxed set, in addition to having everything as advertised, had one card from the 1991 Donruss Baseball Willie Stargell Puzzle (pieces #46 to #48)...too funny (and random)! Maybe Sterling and Donruss were/are part of the same entity!? Yes, I logged the lone puzzle card into my collection here on the TCDB! Brian
