As a ten-year-old kid in the '90's, this was my favorite set I had. It was the first set that I ever felt was "premium", above all the 88-92 Donruss, Fleer, Score, & Topps that I was collecting. The glossy cards without borders, the (at the time) sharp, bright picture, the team-colored marble corner, really made these stand out in my collection. I thought the city backgrounds were great. In the time before internet was readily available, this was a glimpse into the city skylines of new cities. The only gripe would be the lack of career stats, but I think the tradeoff was worth it for an excellent card design. Being a huge Frank Thomas fan, I loved the inserts too.

I really love the design of this set and actually like the backs even more. Unfortunately the photography is underwhelming with repetitive, generic poses. Also, the inserts aren't that great and they pretty much missed on the entire Gold Rookie set (except Chipper).

This set is probably only second to 1995 Upper Deck among my favorite baseball sets of the 1990s. I really LOVE the city skylines on the backs. | ||
