Affiliates are mixed between the Texas Rangers (the affiliate the previous 2 seasons) and the newly announced Tampa Bay Devil Rays (who did not start playing at the Major League level until 1998). For the following season (1997), the Rangers announced pulling out and leaving the team for the Devil Rays to populate fully themselves.
