May 2018 Non-sport Pick-ups by cnangle Last updated on May 22, 2018 This marks my fifth month of non-sport collecting. I've added '56 Sgt. Preston of the Yukon and all of the original Topps Star Wars sets to my collecting goals. I'm still trying to find my non-sport focus. There are a lot of cool non-sports sets out there.

It probably would not have hurt anyone if these guys had been All-Stars just once! by jaysee88 Last updated on May 18, 2018 Every year there are perceived snubs when the All-Star rosters are announced. Someone always gets left out that maybe should have made it. But hey..... It probably would not have hurt anyone if these guys had been All-Stars just once!

Hometown Heroes - Single Franchise Players by Lerxst2112 Last updated on May 2, 2018 While over 18,000 players have worn a major league uniform, only 177 of them have spent their entire career, of at least 10 years, exclusively with a single team. That number is reduced to a scant 22 if you only include those with at least 20 years of service to a single franchise. Fully, 20 of them have been named to Baseball's Hall of Fame, including 2 from this years class. Of the remaining 2, Derek Jeter seems a virtual lock for that honor as soon as he becomes eligible. Ten of these players surpassed 3000 hits, one had more than 500 home runs and one had more than 400 wins and 3500 strikeouts. I've had the pleasure of personally meeting 10 of these players at autograph shows in the past. This list was inspired by the book Hometown Heroes by Clay Sigg.

2012 Cincinnati Reds - NL Central Division Champions by TheToddFather21 Last updated on May 1, 2018 Starting Line Up, Rotation and key players on the 2012 Cincinnati Reds NL Central Division Championship Team. Although the Reds won the Division in 2010, this was probably their best shot to win a World Series in the 2010-Present Era. They lost to the Giants in the NLDS 3-2 games after winning the first two games in San Francisco. They finished with a 97-65 record.

Cards that Accurately Predicted the Future by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Apr 12, 2018 Card companies sometimes try and predict the future. Sometimes, it's laughably far off. Sometimes, however, it's accurate.

Better Stuff Available for Trade by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Apr 10, 2018 I like to trade fairly simply. One card for one card, it doesn't matter who is on the card or what set I am getting back as long as I need it. However, I do have a few things that are slightly rarer that I'd like something slightly rarer for in return.

April 2018 Non-Sport Aquisitions by cnangle Last updated on Apr 8, 2018 This is will be my fourth month of actively buying vintage non-sport. My vintage non-sport collection is getting a little more focused. I'm still buying just about anything I find in antique stores but I'm actively seeking all the Church & Dwight, Clark's Thread, J&P Coats, and Arbuckle's Coffee sets.

1990 New York Yankees by fedoratipper Last updated on Apr 7, 2018 As a Yankees fan, the late 80's early 90's teams were painful to watch. And this year was no exception. The Yankees finished 67-95 for their first last place finish in 24 years.

March 2018 Non-sport Acquisitions by cnangle Last updated on Mar 31, 2018 3/31 update: I closed out March pretty strong. I am way over budget for the month but I allowed myself a little extra because my wife and I went on a road trip to Devils Tower in Wyoming and we stopped at every antique store along the way.

3/17 update: This has been a month of coffee cards. I think that's all that I've bought this month. My wife and I did some antique hunting near Rochester, MN today. She found a lot of vintage books. I only found four trade cards...all coffee cards. This is will be my third month of actively buying vintage non-sport. I'm finding that I am drawn towards trade cards more than tobacco issues. They are generally a little cheaper and the subject matter is a little broader.
1998 Florida Marlins by fedoratipper Last updated on Mar 17, 2018 A year after winning the World Series, the Marlins had a fire sale of their best players (Something they would do again after winning the 2003 World Series). This resulted in a 54-108 season.

February 2018 Non-Sport Acquisitions by cnangle Last updated on Feb 25, 2018 I'm already done spending money on cards this month. I'm already way over my monthly card budget. I couldn't pass up the complete "Bird Series" sets. The artwork and printing is so well done on these sets it almost looks like the birds could fly off the cards.

Chasing that Cardboard Rainbow by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Jan 25, 2018 The concept of collecting a Rainbow is getting every different version parallel for a specific card. This became possible in the late 1990s when sets started having more than one parallel, and now is nearly impossible with 1/1s and printing plates. I've only completed 4 at the time of this writing (1/11/18) all of which are NBA. Naturally I'm not considering the cards that had only one parallel. List was inspired by the Card of the Day on day of typing. List title inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCPpOba2O4g

New People Added to my collection in 2017 - Hockey Only by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Dec 29, 2017 2017 is the year I began actively collecting the NHL. I like to keep track of the first card I get of each person, and this is the easiest way for me to do that. Since so many of the people are going to be new for me, I thought it proper to create a chart just for them, plus I get to see how many new people I add to my collection in 2017. Thanks to the gifts from several friends, I begin with exactly 3000 cards in my NHL collection.

New Sets added to my collection in 2017 by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Dec 28, 2017 Unlike previous years, I will attempt to include ALL sets, not just the three main aspects of my collection. Since I cleared the 1000 cards mark in baseball and football in 2016, and the 3000 mark in hockey, I've got a lot of sets already and in 2016 made a chart on my blog that lists the sets- so now I have something to work off of to determine which is new or not. I began collecting the NHL full time in 2017 so the list is hockey heavy but covers a wide variety of topics spanning 128 years. The first card from each set added to my collection is the card that appears in the album. It can be any card, IE, base, parallel, insert, etc.

And They're Not Even Parallels by SeaKing Last updated on Dec 26, 2017 Colored parallels have become the norm in just about every modern baseball product. And because they are parallels, with the same card number on the back, there's really not much to get confused by. There is at least one product, however, that could cause a collector some confusion.

2012 Heritage featured a number of 'Rookie Stars' who appeared on multiple cards. I'm not going to do a comprehensive list here, but will feature three cards of former Mariner Alex Liddi, who just happened to be the first MLB player to be born and raised in Italy. As you can see, each card features a different background color, as well as three different prospects per card (in addition to Liddi). At the very least, Topps should have used blue towards the top of card #191.

Cards I got signed, with story by vrooomed Last updated on Dec 22, 2017 A list of all the various cards I've personally gotten autographed over the years, and the story behind it. Note: Currently a work in progress. Eventually, I will add the images of all of the actual cards in my collection. Additionally, I have several more that will need to be added.

An additional autograph story: In 1990, during Spring Training, I asked Juan Samuel and Mike Scioscia to each sign a baseball for me. The balls had been used for batting practice and had actually been hit out of the park. My dad and I had picked up about 20-25 balls and we were giving them out to kids so they could use them for autographs too. Got to tell Juan Samuel how much we missed him being a Phillie. I got Scioscia's autograph because he's from near Philadelphia.
Not *Quite* Recycled Photos by SeaKing Last updated on Dec 21, 2017 One of the biggest complaints I hear from fellow collectors is that Topps often recycles photos- with single photos being spread out over many different brands. This isn't a new practice, nor has Topps cornered the market on this transgression.
I recently came across these four cards of former Mariners legend Dan Wilson. The photos are not what we would call 'recycled,' but they do feature an interesting sequence of photos that seem to have been taken within a very short time of one another.
Players Traded for Themselves by vrooomed Last updated on Dec 21, 2017 These players wound up in deals where they were returned to their original team as part of the deal that got them to their new team. If you know of others, please leave a comment or direct message me. Enjoy!

Badly airbrushed Basketball cards by Billy Kingsley Last updated on Dec 17, 2017 Sometimes, when a player joins a new team, a card set will be released before a photo of the player in the new uniform can be obtained. Most of the time, preferably, there will be a note on the card, or just a second card in the Series 2 release when card companies actually cared. But sometimes...sometimes they would paint on a new jersey. And it's absolutely hideous. The entire 2000 Topps USA set for the men could be on this list, also.
