Right Team, Wrong Uniform!? by stevejrogers
Last updated on Jul 10, 2020

There are many players with lengthy careers with a single franchise, and plenty of those have been with franchises that changed uniform styles, colors, or both as frequent as styles tend to change.

But there are a few long tenured players whom seemingly spent their entire time with a franchise that made only one or two different changes.

And sometimes, whether its just before the sweeping change to a long standing uniform style happens, or the player's last year or so was played after the franchise made a change from a long standing style; it does seem weird to see the player in a different style, even if its all with the same franchise you'd associate the player with.

Note: This does not include any Retro/Turn Back The Clock/Tribute sort of one time only or an alternative style for specific home games.

As well as returning players as managers, coaches, Spring Training Instructors, etc.

Or, as often was the case, a card depicting a retired player in an Old-Timers Day, or like event, clad in the team's uniform style of the day.

MLB Honoree Teams 1999 All-Century Team by stevejrogers
Last updated on Jul 10, 2020

Ballots formed from panel of experts' selection of 100 greatest players for the 20th Century.

Revealed prior to the 1999 All-Star Game in Boston 7/13.

Fans voted for the top two players for the infield positions and catcher, as well as the top nine outfielders and top six pitchers. A Blue Ribbon Panel added five more that didn't garner initial votes.

The team was revealed in a ceremony prior to Game 2 of the 1999 World Series in Atlanta on 10/24.

3 Non-Action
1 Practice Jersey

Top Card: Pelle Lindbergh
Runner-up: Tony Esposito

Curious Omissions: Pat Riggin (Wash), Greg Stefan (Det, RC), Glen Hanlon (Stl/NYR), Brain Hayward (Wpg, RC)

1982-83 OPC Goalies by Blargh
Last updated on Jun 27, 2020

32 Base Goalie Cards
14 Warm-up Shots
18 With Mask/Helmet

13 Action shots

Top card: Mike Liut
Runner-Up: Eddie Mio/Grant Fuhr

Curious Omissions: Marco Baron (Bos), Roland Melanson (NYI), Doug Keans (LA), Glen Hanlon (Van/Stl)

Strange Additions: None

The 1982-83 Set photo selection is a big improvement over the 81-82 set. Although it is too little, too late. There has already been a movement towards the cage or combo instead of the mask.

6 Masks
4 Combo

1980-81 OPC Goalies by Blargh
Last updated on Jun 27, 2020

35 Goalie Base cards
7 Action shots
8 head shots
5 Inaction shots (Could be stoppage of play)
14 warm-up shots
1 posed

Top card: John Davidson
Runner-up: Mike Liut

Curious Omissions; Gerry Cheevers (retired), Mario Lessard (No Kings Goalies in set), Michel Larocque, Rob Holland (Never had a card)

Strange Additions: Doug Soeteart

One feature I wish this site had was to filter cards just to show goalies in the hockey sets. To make a list with only goalies from all sets would be quite daunting and time consuming. Instead I will make a list of goalies from the OPC sets of the 1980s.
This era had a mixture of masks, cages and the modern day combo mask. Unfortunately the photography in the 80s OPC was rather pathetic and marred by frequent warm-up pictures.
I will only feature the base cards.

NBA Players who appear on cards but did not get any of their own by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Jun 18, 2020

There are more than 1000 people who have played in the NBA but did not get an NBA card. Some, however, do appear on other player's cards in the background or defending the player. A work in progress.
College cards do not count but other professional leagues do.

Louis Requena ... vintage master MLB shutterbug by theFalcon
Last updated on Jun 7, 2020

I queried Louis Requena (1919-2013) under the editorial category at gettyimages.com and it returned 832 pictures! It's a beautiful collection. I'll bet a lot of his 8x10 prints were used for autographs at card shows.

He was NY-based and I'm sure he was on Topps' speed dial ... I posted a few of the cards he must have done, along with his pics that were near duplicates (link included).

I also think many cards were produced from his photo sessions, even if a similar card photo is NOT in Getty. I put in examples of my guesswork, too.

Goalies that Played for the Flyers in the 2018-19 Season by jfalvo316
Last updated on May 15, 2020

The Philadelphia Flyers set an NHL record in the 2018-19 season for most goalies played by a team in a single season at 8, here they are. Out of the 8 only 3 remain, Carter (Starter, Cahtah) Hart, Brian (Moose) Elliott and Alex Lyon.

Lyon currently plays for the AHL Phantoms and was called up for 3 games this season when Hart was out with an injury. He proved to be a valuable prospect for a future backup to Hart, starting 2 games and filling in for Elliott after he was pulled in the beginning of the 3rd period in a home loss to New Jersey. Out of his 2 starts, he stopped 36 out of 40 shots on goal during an all-around ugly 4-1 home loss to Montreal and stopped 28 out of 31 shots during a 6-3 home victory against Colorado. The game he filled in for Elliott in the third was another all-around ugly game when the Flyers were shutout by the Devils in a 5-0 home loss.

Special Special Teamers by Uncorrected Error
Last updated on May 12, 2020

32 special teamers were named to the NFL's 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 75th anniversary, or 100th anniversary teams. This list consists of one card I own of each of them plus three cards I own of special teamers who were special in other ways.
Gale Sayers and Deion Sanders qualified for the list as special teamers, but their noted accomplishments also include their success at RB and CB respectively.
In George Blanda's case, his accolades were as a QB, but it was his ability as a kicker that extended his career.

Signs of the 80s: Leading Scorers by bevans
Last updated on Apr 24, 2020

The 1980s and early 1990s will always represent "my" era of hockey fandom and collecting. I still watch the games, of course, and collect cards of current players, but will never feel the same emotional attachment to today's stars as I do to the players I grew up watching in the 1980s. Since most of the autograph cards I collect feature players from that era anyway, I decided to challenge myself by trying to collect autographed cards from each of the top 100 scorers of the decade. Scoring totals here are based on the 11-year period from 1979-80 through 1989-90.

Awesome Steve Yzerman by vrooomed
Last updated on Apr 22, 2020

Yes, Stevie Y was pretty awesome at playing hockey, that we all know. My wife became a Red Wings fan when Yzerman was drafted on June 8, 1983. As a hockey fan, and having 2 uncles who were big into sports cards, she was able to get many sets through the 1980s, as well as many extra cards. For our 1 year wedding anniversary (in 1996), I decided to get a "joke" gift being that the traditional first anniversary present is paper and I picked up a handful of Yzerman cards (ones I knew she wouldn't already have). Well, the joke was on me, she loved them, and when I told her the shop near where I worked had more, I was tasked with getting more. When I finished with that shop's supply, we turned to shows, and eventually would end up attending the Spring and Fall Expo in Toronto for about 5 or 6 years (hockey collector heaven). The collection grew, and grew. Many oddball items were obtained, some that aren't even listable here (like tickets, brochures, magazines, and even mini hockey sticks with photos on them). However, the impressive part was the number of standard cards we were able to get going back to the beginning of his career to the time we stopped (August 2002 - when we were expecting a baby and knew our card budget just became the baby budget). This list will spotlight a few of the more interesting, rare, or simply cool Yzerman cards we obtained over those years. I hope you enjoy them and I hope I can remember how we got most of them!

Reds in an Era: 2008-2015: The Comeback Kids & Clinchmas by TheToddFather21
Last updated on Mar 18, 2020

In 2008, the Reds completed trades to send Ken Griffey Jr. to the Chicago and Adam Dunn to Arazona. In 2008, a new core of players began to emerge. Edinson Volquez, newly acquired from the Rangers, won 18 games and made the all-star team. Joey Votto came in second in the ROY voting. Jay Bruce made his debut in May, and Johnny Cueto also debuted in 2008. The Reds won the NL Central Division in 2010 and 2012 and made a Wild-Card appearance in 2013. They're best opportunity to win was in 2012. Although they made the second wild-card in 2013, things began to fall apart, and in 2014 the window to win shut as they lost 86 games and came in 4th in the NL Central, and at the 2015 trade deadline the Reds began to trade off pieces including Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake.

After making the wild-card playoff game in 2013, things began to fall apart for the Reds. They fired Dusty Baker after the 2013 season. After loosing 98 games in 2014, the Reds began to trade off players, Mat Latos and Alfredo Simon for younger players, Anthony DeSclafani and Eugenio Suarez. At the trade deadline in 2015, the Reds went all in with the rebuild, trading ace Johnny Cueto, and Mike Leake. The players on this list is the core players of the 'rebuild era.'

Elton Brand on other people's cards by Billy Kingsley
Last updated on Mar 11, 2020

Elton Brand is my all-time favorite NBA player. He is from my family's hometown of Peekskill NY and I began following his career while he was still in high school. He became my favorite player though because of who he is, the fact that he is a hometown hero means I just got to learn about him before everyone else. He was the #1 pick in the 1999 NBA Draft, and played for the Bulls, Clippers, 76ers, Mavericks and Hawks before returning to the 76ers. He played until the 2015-16 season and is now leading the Delaware 87ers G-League team. This gallery will be cards of other people that he appears on, either his teammates or playing defense. I know there are more, which I will eventually add, but the idea just occured to me to create this list in November 2017 so it will take me some time to look through all of my collection and find the rest.
