Hmmm... growing up in Canada, these were the first baseball cards I ever purchased as a kid. Unless my memory fails me, I recall purchasing two packs at the local country store for five cents each. My first card from the first pack? Jack Billingham! This set will always be one of my all-time favourites and I recall being especially fascinated by the black-and-white World Series cards. I can also recall the two most prized cards in the set that year... Lou Brock and Denny McLain. And it was also via this set that I learned who Willie Davis was before I ever heard of Willie Mays. These cards were my gateway to the game and to watching baseball on TV. |
