How can you not love the baseball cap design and 'Topps baseball' logo? I was always searching for Yankee cards with the pink bubble gum borders, hoping each one found would be a Reggie!
Hello fellow baseball card collectors and enthusiasts. I am new to this channel after seeing an ad on the program "The Card Life" so I checked out this site and am very impressed of it's layout, the easy navigation and how a collector can organize his or her card collection.

81 topps baseball favorite set by far from my childhood as well as first pack rip. Unfortunately as a kid I would take the pack fresh cards and position the players out on the field in their proper positions and as they scooted along the ugly green carpet of those days the corners and entire cards even would crease and fold as I would scoot them along playing my imaginary ball game in my head. Shame but as a 3y old I had no clue. Big props to my dad for the patience and love for keeping them packs coming over the next 5 years until I was old enough to start buying those green packs of 87. That's when it was on!
1981 TOPPS – Faint or Partial borders are not considered variations but printing flaws.

This is one of my favorite Topps Sets. I really like the hat as well as the baseball with the Topps logo. The overall look of the '81 cards is simple very very clean. From what I have seen tho is it is fairly difficult to find a nicely centered one.
1981 Topps was my first set that I really collected had a few older cards but those packs were the best. My favorite player then and still now Dennis Leonard KC Royals. He was a great player and he had the cool mustache LOL.
1981 Topps are the first packs I remembered opening. I was caught up in “Fernandomania” and wanted his card. From that point on I was hooked on collecting. It was to my fathers delight as it reminded him of collecting when he was a kid. While 1981 Topps isn't regarded a great set, it will always be one to me.
My favourite set - started collecting cards with '81 Topps as a 10 year old with memories of my parents and I vacationing in Ogonquit, Maine and I scrounged empty pop cans for deposit coins to put together enough for packs.

An absolutely beautiful set. Being in SoCal during the height of "Fernando Mania" was an awesome experience and when I pulled his RC I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. Not the first set I put together, (1979) but probably the best set I put together. The HOFers, the Rookies, the traded sets...awesome times and a great memory for me...
This is where it all started for me. I was 12 years old and spent every penny I earned that summer buying packs of baseball cards. Sure, I bought my fair share of Fleer and Donruss that year, but I mostly collected Topps. This was the first set I ever collected and first set I ever completed. Great memories!
First set I ever collected. My dad would buy me a rack pack every time we went to Toys R Us. My little brother got all my doubles. Being 7 at the time, I was a little surprised when 1982 rolled around and there was a whole new set to collect. I had no idea it worked that way!
First complete set I ever owned. My dad bought it for me when I was about 12. Loved that set of cards for years, it was like my own personal set of baseball encyclopedias. I poured over the backs of the cards: statistics from 1975, hometowns, interesting facts, where a rookie had played the last three years in the minors... All of it. I'd watch the Saturday game of the week and go pull a card of the Royals 3rd baseman to find out more about him. It was awesome.
Still one of my favorite sets of all time. The design and numbering system are brilliant.
Love the design of these cards. The hat in the corner is a nice touch.

In 1981 I was 7 years old and my Mom bought me my first baseball card pack; 1981 Topps. I'll never forget the ball caps in the design. I am sure I blew past the Ricky Henderson's and Pete Rose's, throwing them in a shoe box with little regard, as I searched for Baltimore Orioles cards. I remember my brother, who I think might be OCD, having to sort the cards by team, in numerical order...and then securing each team set with a double wrapped rubberband. If I still had those cards, you can bet they'd have deep indentations in each side from the bands.

1981 Topps was not only the first pack of cards I ever bought, but it still remains one of my favorite sets of all time. The design on the older Topps cards ,mainly 81, 82 and 83, was great.
Along with the 1980 set, my favorite card set. This design featured the little baseball cap in the left-hand corner of the set which I really enjoyed as a kid and which I still enjoy today. I remember opening a pack one day and being so excited that I got a Steve Garvey card. This was the last set of Topps Baseball cards that used the "AL All Star" or "NL All Star" banner in the card as starting in 1982, Topps began creating seperate cards for this set. |
