This set was distributed in factory set form in a plastic clam shell type box. The box was labeled with a sticker that reads "STARS Series I / Set # _______ of 10,000 Sets" with a handwritten serial number in the blank.

When I acquired my first set (s/n 1857), it also had another label affixed to it by a previous owner. This label indicated that the first 2,000 of the sets were error sets. I have since received another set (s/n 2276) which contained three cards that were variations compared to the first set; Card #1 with a different photo, Card #32 with the driver's name corrected, and the Checklist card. It is interesting to note that, while the revised checklist card bears the corrected name on card #32 as well as a correction to the name spelling on card #17 (which was only mis-spelled on the original checklist card, not on card #17 itself), there were also three new misspellings introduced; the first card is numbered "!" and the driver's first name is shown as "Blane" instead of "Blaine", #15 with "Lannigan" instead of "Lanigan", and #41 showing "Malloney" instead of "Maloney".

I have added the variations to the checklist with the cards from the low-number sets as version 'a', and the cards from sets with a serial number over #2,000 as version 'b'.
