Most of the base cards in this set are typically the same, minus the sub-sets and color variations as well as the actual inserts, as those have more character and design changes. Overall, the base set is simple and has Star cards of current NFL Stars in their old collegiate uniforms. Then you have the current upcoming Draft Picks in their, still current at the time, collegiate uniforms and they are considered the Rookie Class and Rookie Cards of the set. The cards DO depict action photos of the players and that is a big part of what I look for especially in a football card. Action photos are far above the best pictures for cards. Mostly the reason for less action photos prior to 1966 is because of photo technology and it’s lack of ability to support high speed photography for that many players that fast at the time. It wouldn’t be prudent so they did a ton or mostly still shots or staged action shots ( like the Heisman Trophy pose ). But, now there isn’t much excuse for not having action photos for cards, so Panini did well in that respect. The Base Set does use the same photo of the player from the front of the card on the back of the card but in a smaller font. Panini is well and commonly known for lots of printing anomalies. This set comes with that but I would say 80% of the cards I have are ExMt-NRMt but there is that occasional card of a Star or Insert that will have issues and inevitably lowers the cosmetics of the card and therefore the value as well. There wasn’t a ton of doubles when breaking boxes and when there were, there were also doubles of a couple of nice Star Cards and Inserts/Sub-Set cards as well. Overall the set is attractive and has potential from the collectors stand point. I rated this set at a 7.
