First pack of cards I ever opened from a People's Drug store in Potomac, MD. I got a Cal Ripken and a Bo Jackson, my two favorite players. I was hooked from there!

My Grandfather use to own a Vending company. He got sick and my Grandmother took it over. She use to bring me to the wholesaler and my eyes lit up when I saw this box.

I think it was 12$. She told me I can open 1 pack. Living in Philly I of course was a Philly Fan. I got Ricky Jordan Rated Rookie and thought I hit the jackpot.

I was Hooked.
The End....

I forgot to mention that without a uv light you won't be able to identify the 6 variations, sorry to make your lives now as frustrating as mine trying to find them all, and allegedly a small portion of the variants are extremely hard to come by only in 1 to 5 percent of the billions of copies made so good luck and i can show you 6 rickey hendersons all different and 5 jose canseco mvps all different with uv light.

yall forgot about glowbacks and non glowbacks, even though the above mentioned variants fall into glowbacks or non glowbacks, what I am having trouble in putting together my complete set is how many of the cards have 6 variations so i can figure out how many damn binder sheets i need, holy crap this is a giant set.

Talk about bad collation; I bought a wax box and pulled approximately 40 copies of 10 separate cards, including the Diamond Kings checklist card. What do you do with so many DK checklists?

The 36 cards that are not affected are:
● 26 Diamond Kings cards
● 7 checklist cards (although checklist card #600 has its own, unrelated variations previously documented here)
● 2 "Award Winner" cards
● 1 Warren Spahn "puzzle" card
That leaves 624 of the 660-card affected.
The variations occur on the backs of the cards. The copyright info has "LEAF INC" (no period after INC) or it has "LEAF INC." (with a period after INC). Also, in the statistics header, cards can be found with " * Denotes " (1 asterisk) or with " * Denotes * " (2 asterisks). This amounts to 4 variations, which have been limited to these versions:
[a] - VAR: "© 1988 LEAF, INC." & "* Denotes" on back
[b] - VAR: "© 1988 LEAF, INC." & "* Denotes *" on back
[c] - VAR: "© 1988 LEAF, INC" & "* Denotes" on back
[d] - VAR: "© 1988 LEAF, INC" & "* Denotes *" on back
If you have one of the cards that was not previously visually verified, please add a message to the forum thread which is located here. One of the members of the team will contact you for photos or scans.

A very colorful set that was printed on thin card stock. Loaded
with rookies. Griffey Jr., Sheffield, R. Johnson, Schilling and others.
Overproduced and not worth much if anything.

I still think this is one of the coolest card designs of any set! I still love looking at these cards.

The first pack of cards I ever opened was a pack of 1989 Donruss, I remember because my older cousin who was super into collecting was mad because my first pack ever had a Ken Griffey Jr. The rest is history lol!

The first set I collected. Ripped hundreds of wax packs from the corner store and built an impressive stack of Norm Charlton rookie cards (not surprised to see now that it was DP). At some point I clued in to the existence of hobby shops, card shows and common boxes, and bought my missing singles.

My set is still in the binder, but those cards were meticulously sorted, counted, read and categorized to the point that most would hardly grade VG.

I like busting cheap late 80's/early 90's wax, and 89' Donruss is one of the more aesthetically pleasing boxes of the era to sit and rip, even if there's not much of interest value or rarity wise.
Wanted to mention that I'm pretty sure the * vs ** variation is a 50/50 split, usually in a retail box of 36 the top left/bottom right stacks will be the single asterisk, the other two with the 2nd asterisk.

Every regular (non-Diamond King or checklist) card featured four minor printing variations on the back. The copyright notice exists both with, and without, a period after the INC and the Denotes Led League exists with both *Denotes and *Denotes*. Altogether, all four variations exist:

INC./*Denotes
INC/*Denotes
INC./*Denotes*
INC/*Denotes*
