The wax box lid features a partial picture of a mockup card not included in the set. It represents a Rated Rookie of an unknown NY Yankee. Though it was never established if the card was going to be part of the release, we always had fun searching for it (just in case), then attempting to find out who it might have been.

Per a Sportzcommish forum post:
"If you have a player's card from each variation and you look at them from the front like you normally would any card, then flip them the same way the back will have a different orientation. "

A good looking set with black borders. Key rookies include Bonds, Maddux, Palmiero, Clark and Jackson. Nice set.

I have 6 monsters of '87 Donruss.
I would trade/sell 100-400+ card lots.
I have deleted value cards & ERR/VAR cards. HOWEVER, do not hesitate to ask if I have any specific cards.

The backs of the cards in the factory sets are oriented differently than cards taken from wax packs, giving the appearance that one version or the other is upside down when sorting from the card backs. There are no premiums or discounts for either version.

Great set, tough to find mint cards with the black borders. Maddux, Larkin, Bonds, Bo, Clark, Palmiero, and Cone rookies are a must have for any collection. Can still get wax boxes for under $30 today.
