Career Mendoza Lineby mendoza_ - 14 cards (Last updated on Dec 6, 2020) |
Must have played at least 5 seasons
with a min of 550 At Bats.
Mario Mendoza's .215 does not qualify for list but is included for perspective.
1960 to current...
Any others you can think of that qualify?
If this is your list, you can make it available by changing the status to "Open" under Lists.
Comments
There are fewer on this list than are in the HOF and probably fewer than hit over .400. Their defensive skills kept them in the league.

Drew Butera should qualify. Entered the year at .200 even and is now down to .198. Another catcher, Mike Ryan, should qualify.

Thanks, two more on list, surprised I had not heard of Mike Ryan.
This is an excellent list. Thank you. Not surprised that it's filled with backup catchers.

Fun list. Thanks for sharing!
If you go back to the Tobacco card era, then catcher Bill Bergen would qualify with his all-time low .170 BA, with over 3K at bats. However, since the cutoff is 1960, Bill will have to settle for a dubiously honorable mention. 8O)

Bob Uecker? He was proud of hitting exactly .200.
I have a Stathead account so I can search for the players you're missing!
John Vukovich (.161 BA, 10 Seasons 1970-1981, 559 AB) Kevin Cash (.183 BA, 8 Seasons 2002-2010, 641 AB) Brandon Wood (.186 BA, 5 Seasons 2007-2011, 700 AB) Luis Pujols (.193 BA, 9 Seasons 1977-1985, 850 AB) Michael Martinez (.194 BA, 7 Seasons 2011-2017, 571 AB) Ron Tingley (.195 BA, 9 Seasons 1982-1995, 563 AB) Jim French (.196 BA, 7 Seasons 1965-1971, 607 AB) Bob Davis (.197 BA, 8 Seasons 1973-1981, 665 AB) Luke Maile (.198 BA, 5 Seasons 2015-2019, 605 AB) Anthony Recker (.199 BA, 7 Seasons 2011-2017, 552 AB) Orlando Mercado (.199 BA, 8 Seasons 1982-1990, 562 AB) Frank Fernandez (.199 BA, 6 Seasons 1967-1972, 727 AB) Doug Camilli (.199 BA, 9 Seasons 1960-1969, 767 AB) Rob Johnson (.200 BA, 7 Seasons 2007-2013, 736 AB) Bob Uecker (.200 BA, 6 Seasons 1962-1967, 731 AB)
You'll be able to add Lewis Brinson to the list next year. He has a .189 BA in 761 AB, but he has only played in 4 seasons so far.
Increasing the time frame to all years 1871-present would add 12 players (All of which played before 1920): Charlie Sweasy, Phil Powers, Bill Traffley, Rudy Kemmler, Tom McLaughlin, Charlie Bastian, Mike Heydon, Fritz Buelow, John Gochnar, Bill Bergen, Jack O'Neill, and Wickey McAvoy. Bill Bergen is definitely the most impressive (or unimpressive) on this list, as pointed out before, as he had a .170 BA in 3028 AB!
Thanks, many more than I thought, interesting list. I have some list editing to do...
Update on my last comment: Luke Maile just signed an MLB contract with the Brewers. With his BA at .198, we'll have to keep an eye on him to see if he improves his BA next season. |
